Hello: I was born in the Gorbals (1938) in Warwick Street (now Nicholson Street) my Mother's name was Mary Armour. I was named after my Aunt Annie Mitchell. We moved to Paisley when I was about 2 years old. My mother married James Kerr. Any information would be appreciated thanks.

Hi does anyone know anything about the Swan family from Glasgow? I am doing some family reserch. I was adopted, John and Rita Swan was the mother and father and Rita, John and Alice were there children. Does anyone from Abbotsford Place remember them I myself was born there in 1962?

Hi All havent been on here in a long time all the stories are wonderful I do remember most of it well. I have been gone from glasgow going on 31yrs still go back now and then but so much has changed, I get lost everytime, and to the peson who said he was one of the cumbie gang - all the people you mentioned I knew everyone of them. I was not as old as them but I think you missed out a few names which I will not mention. Anyway can anyone help me on my birth lines, my address was 100 half EGLINGTON LANE GORBALS 1947, my granny told me that where we lived their was horse stables, is there any photos of this LANE? I have tried everything to find this place but can't find any records. Help help ta so much

I have posted before and I'm always amazed at the great stories told still waiting to see who remembers Miss Muffets the bakery in Cumberland st across the road from the Laurieston Renick church. They made the best iced Gingerbread I have ever tasted and Jacks chip shop at the bottom of Cavendish st next to Mary Pirries he made the best potato fritters. Still have great memories of growing up in the Gorbals. This is a great site!

I'm trying to find out if theres an existing copy of the biography of Johnny Raminsky, the safe cracker available anywhere. I believe it was called 'Gentle Johnny'. My brother served time in Barlinnie at the same time as him (he must have been a good age then) and word went round the prison that 'Raminsky's gone over the wall'. In fact he was hiding in a drain in the exercise yard. I'd be more than pleased if anybody has any similar anecdotes.

I noticed that someone on the Gorbals website is looking for information about Harry Rollins School of Dancing. Harry was my late uncle and I would be more than happy to help anyone looking for information. Whilst I'm on about Glasgow, I'd like to find photographs of Nicholson Street (circa 1949) when and where I was born, and Abbotsford School, where I was pupil from 1954 to 1961. Photographs of the street, school building or, even better, a school photograph of staff and pupils would be appreciated. I have found this page by hours of searching others I am looking for my mothers siblings her brothers are from scotland and she has a sister from Canada, her brothers are called Charles, Patrick, Joseph and Nole. Her sister is called Celine Smith, she also has a brother that lives in London his name is Collum Grant thay came from Buncrana Ireland and thay are the childen of the late Charles and Kathrine Grant. Can anyone HELP ME I have not seen them or my cousins for over 22 years?

F.A.O Francie Connolly. The shop you are talking about next to St Lukes was called WILLIE MARKS, it was the best bakers in the Gorbals and I can still smell the hot rolls to this day!

I'm still looking for any friends or relatives of my grandparents, May and James Smith who lived in 128 Naburn St then 269 Caledonia Rd. May Smith (nee McFarlane) was brought up in 134 Naburn St with sister Cathie (Kate) and brother Tommy. James Smith was a carter with brothers John & Bertie. His father was called Dundee Smith I believe.

I am looking for anyone who knows of my family all from the Gorbals Glasgow. My father and some of his brothers comr from 285 South Wellington Street which changed its name to Lawmoor street. The family name was GLEN and the family was as follows William Glen 1893, James Francis Glen 1895, Jeanie Glen 1897, Nellie Craigie Glen 1898, Isabella Cochra Glen 1900, Frank Glen 1902, Alexander Ross Glen 1906. The father of the above was James Glen who was a gasworks drawer 1871 and the mother was Jeanie Leonard 1871. They were married in Glasgow on 20th September 1893. They seemed to move around quite a lot and the addresses I have for the places they stayed is are as follows; 285 South Wellington Street, 134 Thistle Street, 171 Sandyfaules Street, 247 Thistle Street, 313 Crown Street, 237 South Wellington Street and 65 Florence Street. If anyone knows of any of the Glen family or knows if they have any children or grand children in the area I hope you can let me know as I know very little of my dads family.

We both worked at John Dykes and sons in the Saltmarket area.Left John Dykes to do my national service 1951-1953 when I was discharged I moved to Canada and I have never been back. F.A.O. of Karum Din - Was your parents shop at the corner of Nicholson Street formerly named Warwick St and on Norfolk St? If so, there is a photo taken of Nicholson St taken from Norfolk st and you see a shop there, it maybe the shop you are looking for. It is in one of the Glasgow books, when I have time I will try and find it and see if it is.
