Had to add to this topic again as I worked out the cost of Johnsons rolls in 1961.
Iwas told back then on good authority that it cost a halfpenny in old money to make them and
based on my deliveries of 150 dozen a week that I used to deliver and I remember the amount per
week that I used to hand in on a Saturday morning it worked out between 3 and 3 1/2 pennies in
old money.I loved the well fired rolls also.
Interesting that Amelia says that Wellcroft Place was a Dull & queer place !
I think on most rainy days all the tenements looked drab but I can see from Rose Doyle,s great picture with the Office Bar in it it looks like it could be closing in on you with the high Railway arches across the
road. and all the other roads like Cumberland Street and Eglington Street appeared very wide roads.!
