Hey Amelia, no this photo is taken from the top of Nicholson St, just up past Bedford St. that shop you see on the left of the pic on the corner was a greengrocer/general store. You can also see the police station on the left way at the back of the pic which was the other side of Norfolk st. We lived right in the middle of Nicholson St. directly opposite St. John's Infant school. (Our building was a former fire station) Went there for a couple of years before we were all transferred round to Portugal st and then onto Tradeston Street.

Rose hasn't lived in Castlemilk, she lived in Abbotsford place and we went to primary school together.

Hello Rosie,

Just thought I would reply to your query regarding one my recent blogs
which is in fact a duplication.
I have been having technical problems on site and all my postings have
gone through the webmaster, Therefore when I submitted the posting in question I
thought it had been omitted and resubmitted it again.

So fingers crossed this is in fact my first posting??
So wish me luck.
On another note Ihad a look at your picture re; Nicholson street and it was
very good and seeing the old street lamps reminded me of the "Wee Lampie"
who would go round lighting up the close lamps as well as the street ones

Hope this clarify's things a bit .

Hello Josie

First of all many thanks for your reply to my post about the cinema I asked about
and yes it was it was the Bedford Cinema and I can remember walking past in the early
evening and seeing Queues of folks and a busker playing the harmonica!
Brilliant picture of the Crown Cinema and is that someone standing to the right of the picture
selling newspapers. Most elderly men at the time always seemed to wear Bunnetts or were they
called " Cadies". Anyway thanks again.

Best Regards Reg :)
