Hi Frank,
The picture house just up from Eglinton toll was the Odeon [same side as the Plaza dance hall a short distance away], it was there that I saw the film the Magnificent Seven and needless to say most of us boys when we came out of the cinema were playing the part of James Coburn and copying him throwing the stilletto knife. Ah sure you have a great imagination when you're a wean. Can I ask what part of OZ you're in Frank, I was 1 year in Sydney and another year in Melbourne but that was 1974/6.
Danny, the New Cinerama became the Odeon in 1964, and before it was the New Cinerama it was just the plain Cinerama (as I posted earlier, nothing to do with the cinerama process.)
I always knew the the picture hall in Victoria road as the Cinerama and then I think it was changed to the new cinerama, but I left the Gorbals in 1961 to come up to Castlemilk so it could have changed to another name again.
I remember vaguely about a bar in the Colloseum I think it was the first picture house to ever had one I asked my sister and she said yes.
She also said that there was a Scottish premiere about the film Shalako held in the "Colly" and Sean Connery and Bridget Bardot and Stephen Boyd were all there, can anyone remember that. Jimbo look it up on the site you go into and see if it is true. I'll maybe have a wee look later on. The admin is doing a grand job so keep your memories coming.

Amelia,
Sean Connery did indeed attend the SCOTTISH Premiere of Shalako on the 13 December 1968 (the World Premiere was in West Germany on 26 September 1968 and the UK premiere in London on 11 December 1968) > I have removed the URL for copyright reasons, you can find it here: Shalako premiere at the coliseum Glasgow -Paste into Google!
I can find no mention of Brigitte Bardot or Stephen Boyd having been to the Coliseum Cinerama.
Here is an interesting article from the Glasgow Herald dated April 5 1988 (column 4 is the relevant Bit).
Link removed - did not work!
The Coliseum became the Coliseum Cinerama in 1963 and had an extra Bar added! Making 2 in total.

The second link above does not work and it won't let me re-edit it, plus, the screen dump was too big to upload so I had to re-size it! Here is the relevant part of the page, I HOPE!
Bardot said "Non" to Glasgow but Jack Hawkins and Rodd Redwing (who he??) accompanied our hero Shalako, er, Sean to the Coliseum! (Another link that doesn't work!!)
Go to first post on Page 5 for a working link!

Hi Jimbo,
Thanks a million for all these great links that you're posting, I'm loving them all keep them coming please .
I just realised, I'm viewing the above screenshots on a 27" monitor, if you have a smaller monitor right click on the image and then choose Save image as... then use Irfanview to view it by zooming the image to a better legible size.
Irfanview is a free Image viewer and editor and is available from www.irfanview.com
To open Bardot's fiasco RIGHT CLICK on the link and choose Open Link in New Window.
Presumably Ma'mselle Bardot said, in French of course, "You expect ME to go to Glasgow in December, not on yer Nelly Seany Boy, it's St. Tropez for Moi!"
