Hi Sheila,

You got us both here laughing so much my ribs hurt    I was reading your post to my best half and she was glued to every word, but when I got to the bit where your Son calls I couldn't speak for laughing not to mention the tears rolling down my face. She had to come round and read it for herself, needless to say she ended up in a worst state than I was in :P :P :P She said we both should consider doing a stand up comedy team routine. A good old giggle with a good old Glasgow sense of humour, nothing else in the world comes close.

Thanks for your request to Santa on my behalf, if he can make dreams come true, he will. That's the magic of Santa Claus.

Take care Sheila.

John

Hi again John or should I say my comedy team partner
Glad you and your wife had a laugh over the post, I certainly laughed at yours.

So here's my latest plan: I could print out all the comments here and when I go to Glasgow take them to this "silent" person that resides at 31 Blaeloch and show them that this plea is legit! Could maybe add a box of chocolates and a bottle of wine (would check what way the wind was blowing on that one, maybe keep the wine to myself, maybe even keep the chocolates as well if some wee sour plume opens the door  )
I had another plan but it fell through. I asked my friend that works for Strathclyde's finest (the one that has a cousin on the same street) if she could maybe just swing by wearing her uniform and have a wee chat with Mr/Mrs Silent. She was having none of that, I think because she's a wee bit shyer than me. She had the cheek to add she's still trying to recover from my last visit.  Now granted I found myself in some very funny situations but none of it my doing, when I'm out I just have a knack for whack jobs zeroing in on me and as I keep telling her "och it's nice to be nice to people". But that is definitely true about whacky people seeking me out, so much so that today I was going to the mall Christmas shopping with my daughter. She said to me "maybe you should wear your sun glasses" I asked, "why would I do that, when it's raining?", she says "then you won't be able to make eye contact with any crazy people". I said to her "would you like me to hire a guide dog for the day and I'll walk round the mall with my eyes shut?". (No disrespect meant to blind people on that) Every time I go some where with my kids you always hear one of them mumbling "Oh no, here we go". That's code for "someone's making a bee line to engage in conversation with Mom"
Anyway John don't you worry about it, I have lots of time to come up with other plans to endear you to Mr/Mrs Silent, as my Granny used to say.. "just you mark my words". Anyone on here with any other suggested plans, or schemes in this endeavor, please post them here, marked Attention: John, after all no point in two of us going to jail for this and I'm pretty sure Beltrami will not give us a two for one deal.
Cheers, Sheila (Hi, John's wife :D )[/quote]

"Hi to the folks who live at my old address.

I know that this may seem a bit strange receiving a card from a complete stranger! But I have said for years I was going to do this, to make contact with the people who live at a house where I and my sisters grew up. We have so many memories growing up there, in fact two of my sisters were born in the house.

My Mother and Father along with myself and two Sisters moved there from the Gorbals in around 1959 when the house was first built and we all stayed there until the early 70's. Coming from the Gorbals at that time, as you can imagine, not used to an inside toilet, a bathroom, separate bedrooms and a kitchen, it was a thrill to move in to No31, a very special memory indeed.

I can understand that in these times it may be a bit concerning receiving mail from a complete stranger, and for that I sincerely apologise. But I feel better for sending this card.

I hope one day we might meet and say hello in person and see my old home.

Myself and my family wish you and your loved ones a very special and happy Christmas and good new year.

All the best, John "

Take care all,
John
Hello John
I think that's great what you wrote in the card, to the point, and what this house means to you. Now all you have to do is hope the Occupier are decent people and take your request seriously. I know we all have everything crossed for you that they will say yes, or at least contact you to discuss your request.
So we wait along with you.. with baited breath that you can pull this off.
All my best to you John..

Hi All,

Been hectic weekend so not had much time to be on my beloved website. Oh I do love this site, I always look forward to seeing what's going on and chatting with my friends.

It was my youngest Grandson's 5th birthday yesterday ( Caleb ) bless him. He wanted to go to my boat for the day as his Birthday wish. As I had to go and get her winterised soon anyway, I thought oh why not. We got there and he dressed up suitably and safely for being on the water, donning his Captains hat, he started to give out crew orders load and clear, so everyone not only knew who was in charge but understood what their responsibilities were. Just like his Grandad, my wee man!

We had a great day, but he pleaded with me to stay the night on board. So as all Grandperents know, I gave in and we made preparations for our overnight stay. We had plenty of food available on board so that wasn't a problem and I had adequate heating also, but it was very cold! After dinner, I got him well wrapped up and went out on deck to take in the very starry night, it was magnificent and full of Galaxy's on display and as you would expect of a young child he wanted to know what every constellation was etc, now I think myself to be fairly knowledgeable being an ex naval man, but I have to admit I had to use a little bit of improvisation just to keep his imagination and interest going, he loved it so much.

Some time later I could see he was beginning to get tired so we got back into the galley and we had a nice cup of hot chocolate and went to bed, Caleb in one bunk and me in the other, but it didn't take long before I heard hi m say " Grandad can I come sleep with you? " so of course said " come on then " so I managed to squeeze him in behind ne against the bulk head to make sure he didn't go walk-about during the night and we both went to sleep. About 4 o'clock in the morning I woke up desperately needing a pee only to find Caleb fast asleep on my chest.....I waited until he woke up at 6.30 before I could go to the loo    Amazing what you can do when you really, really try!!!!!! What a day, MAGICAL.

Sorry to ramble folks. Will respond to all on going posts tomorrow.

By the way Sheila, I can suggest a name for or duo partnership[....Jonahs Aiel. Any suggestions yourself?

Take care all.

Hi Sheila ( Partner ),

Very funny read. You come up with some great plans to tackle Mr/Mrs Silent, bless them they are probably just shy folk! Just like you Sheila, I usually attract some interesting characters when I'm out and about and sometimes end up in some awkward situations, but you learn things along the way. Well, as of today, I haven't heard anything from Mr/Mrs Silent, but there could be many reasons for that and I respect their privacy, but I can always live in hope that they are thinking it over, you never know!

My other half Ingrid, says hi to you also. Give our regards to your family.

See you later partner.
Take care.

John

Hi Amelia,

What a great idea, you never know it could work! Do you think it is a possibility to do this? What would I have to do to make it happen? Mmm in second thoughts, I wouldn't like to cause the family that live there any embarrassment or discomfort! It wouldn't be right! Sounded a good idea though, I must admit.

I lived on the ground floor on the right as you walked into the close.

Take care.

Hello Rosemary
Aye that was me trying out my comedy act.
Apparently it is quite the adventure going shopping with me, but I think of it as "just a day in the life of Sheila" :D
I forgot that saying "drap somebody in it" Here it's called "throwing someone under the bus" Och well it's all good! John will be fine I'm sending a letter today to my pal Joe (Beltrami) asking him to be on stand by just incase we need him to bail us out. ;) Oh and thank you very much for your offer of a donation to the cause, now will you be needing a tax receipt for that? :o Maybe you could fly over as well Rosemary, and we'll all go see Mr/Mrs Silent together, before they know it we'll be having a wee party in their hoose. Take care, Sheila

Hello Partner
Great story about you and the wee grandson on your boat. Loved it!
My Dad had a 30' cabin cruiser and we sailed from Scotland to Ireland in it. Was a great trip until we started taking on water in the middle of the Irish sea. Well we all survived but a lot of praying as well as a lot of bailing was going on, I can assure you. Other than that it was a rerr wee holiday.
I think Mr/Mrs or maybe it's Ms. Silent are shy right enough, nae worries John they'll soon come out their shell once they meet all of us.
You also meet interesting characters? Now see that's what I call the people I meet, "interesting", it's my family that are not on board with the "interesting" term. Oh well John you and I better never go out together, because it would be pandemonium for sure.  I'm intrigued though with this comment "you end up in awkward situations" whit???? sounds like my outings are tame compared to yours.
Oh and I loved the name for our comedy team. I had come up with two but like yours better. The B A D (bound and determined) or The Longings.
I was thinking about Amelia saying about a story in the paper and got excited at first, but then I thought oh noooooo, that's us going to be up on another charge, first stalking and now harassment. You're on your own with that partner.
Well John it's early days yet and you still might get a reply to your letter, I mean while we're all having a laugh here we don't know what's going on in other folks lives either. So I'm still holding out hope, that Santa will grant your wish, he better or I'm not leaving out any cookies for him this year. Say hello to Ingrid and thanks to you both for the regards to the family. Cheers, Sheila

Still haven't heard anything from Mr/Mrs Silent but I have had a couple of missed calls on my mobile this week but when I check for a number to call back it shows no number! Mmmm I wonder!

Take care.
