Just thought I would post a photo of USS Buckley in dry dock in Boston Naval Dockyard which shows her front bow bent from where she rammed U-66 submarine on 6th May 1944 (U-66 torpedoed and sunk many British and American ships during the war including my father's SS Winimac). After the ramming the U-boat crew came aboard the USS Buckley and there was hand-to-hand combat but eventually the U-boat crew were overpowered and taken prisoner. I am confident that this action by the American navy saved many hundreds of seamen's lives and allowed more supplies to get through to their destinations. U-66 killing days were finally over. Many thanks Jimbo and I wouldn't have been able to collate all this information without your help. Regards Reg
