When the Scotland v England match was playing at Hampden we all used to stand in Pollokshaws Rd. and wait for the buses to pass and would wave at them , some of the passengers on the buses used to throw out money to us.
Talking about money do they still have the "scramble" at weddings saw a few recently and they didn't throw out any money. You had to be a good shover to get the money as the bigger ones would trample on you, many a sore "haun" I got when trying to pick the coins up.

Doubt that kids nowadays could even be bothered to put away their iphones to grab a few copper coins.
Tuppence or thruppence could buy quite a lot when I was taking part in the "scrambles".

Yes changed days now, I used to like watching the Scotland v England matches [think it was one of the few games on TV live] we could hear the "Hampden Roar" wafting over to the soo-side when a goal was scored. Then every second year was the return match to Wembley where people put by money every week for 2 years to go to London for the match. I'm sorry this fixture was stopped, in fact I would love to see it started again. When we were weans we sometimes went up to the Malls myre [spare ground] and asked the people coming off their coaches did they want us weans to "watch" their bus for them when the game was being played, sometimes we got a few pennies from people in a good mood but most of the time it was "get away with ye" ha ha . Yes Jimbo it is changed days now with all the high tec I pads/phones which they seem to be on all the time, Amelia I used to love getting into the "scramble" at a wedding and maybe getting a penny or two but it seems to be another custom that has fallen by the wayside. I remember once when I was about 7 years old and a baby had just been christened and the new Mother held me an abernethey biscuit with a silver sixpence in it WOW I thought I was a millionaire, ah happy days folks

just thought I would squeeze this reply in before the big centenary match tonight <3rd attempt>
But dont recall seeing scrambling at Hampden . however the last match I went to at the old Hampden was in 1981 and me and my mate Jim Mc Kell who had the Franchaise to sell programs in and outside the
ground hired a Sherpa Van and drove over 400 hundred miles from Hampshire with the programs on
board. The Van broke down on the old A74 now m74 at Lesmahagow and we thought our luck was in
as it happened outside a garage however when we enquired as to the whereabouts of the Mechanic we
were told that he was a "Mobile Mechanic" and he was out on call !!! Jim went to the phone box across the road <No mobiles then> to ring for help. I got under the bonnet and fiddled about with the carburetor
and managed to get it going.Scotland were playing Israel in a World Cup qualifier and with Jim
being a fellow Glaswegian he had a few other helpers lined up. It was a great experience but did not
see a lot of the Match. Alan Rough was in goal and Alan Hansen was also playing for Scotland and
they won the match.I did play for the same Boys Club team as "Roughie" Aven Glen " and I believe that he won as the ManagerThe Scottish Junior Cup with a Team called Glenafton.
On the way back we went to a Retreat as Jim's job was sellingReligious books and we stopped at
Minsteracres near Consett as they also made Rustic furniture and we brought back a few pieces.
of Garden furniture. On to Birmingham and we stopped at a Chinese Takeaway and watched another
International football ma tch on there TV. letting our meal get cold .Drove back to hampshire the next morning and only Football nuts like Jim and I would do such crazy things to get to a match.
The funny thing was at the Game Jim saw his next door neighbours son in the dark car park
at Hampden and he was on holiday and just came down from his holiday Caravan in Invernes to see the game. Anyway must go as Iwant to see the rest of the Match <scotland just scored >
