Hi Freddy, Sheila & Margaret thanks or the birthday wishes never went outside the door, my back goes out more than I do now:lol: Plenty of cards no handmade ones
Couldn't get a cake big enough for all the candles I would have to put on it
Watched craft all day on TV then had a Bacardi at night, I ought to get a life.
The family came up at different times with my prezzies which was lovely, I'll go away over to my craft shop this week and spend some of my money and get a new keyboard not the music one it's for the computer as it's on it's last legs like myself

Hi Amelia,
May I wish you a very happy belated Birthday and many many more to come. I was up in Glasgow for 10 days holiday just recently [back a week today], took a walk down Cumberland st [from Eglinton st] and on the right hand side new flats have been built [be a while till people move in] but the dark colour of the bricks make them look depressing. Further back the other flats have a Red colour brick which brightens the area up, went into the Brazen Head pub+Laurieston bar meeting up with friends and drinking too much as usual !!!. Took a walk down to Richmond park and they have have built houses everywhere, I looked at a placard showing what the park will look like in time and all you will have is the Ducksie and a bit of greenery round about it with the rest of the park having new houses built on it. Fauldhouse st where I was born opposite the Hutchy bowling club is now called Fauldhouse way so at least they have kept the name . It's all changed since I left there in 1961 as we moved out to south Nitshill [what a scunner !!] but had a great time in Glasgow and 'am now detoxing ha ha. Belated Birthday greetings once again Amelia. xx

Thanks Danny glad you enjoyed your trip back to Glasgow did you no go to the Pig and Whistle or is that closed now. Would you come back here to stay? lot of changes now don't know if it is for the better.
Did you notice the big works offices in Caledonia Rd. that's Wilie Haughy firm he had a business out your old way 'round about Rosyth St it was a refrigeration work another Gorbals boy done well for himself
A woman told me he gives out envelopes to the Gorbals pensioners (Gorbalites) at Christmas

Hi Amelia,
I never went down to the Pig and Whistle pub [actually passed by it and it was open for business], I was taking a photo of the street name [Fauldhouse way] and this workman said what's wrong mate ?, I replied nothing at all I was born here 65 years ago that's all lol. got a bus going along Cally rd and saw a few big factories Amelia but didn't notice the names as for your man handing out the envelopes to the pensioners well fair play to him. I have been asked before could I come back home and stay, 'am afraid the answer would be no as My 3 daughters and 5 grand kids all live in the London area beside me Amelia, I would never be able to settle down again in Glasgow as it has all changed completely [the soo-side 99%] the soo-side that I remember and loved has gone but not in my mind. Love coming hame tae Glesga but will only be for holidays I'm afraid to say. Speak later Amelia, take care and God Bless.

Like Danny i was away for a few weeks end Sept. to mid October and belated wishes and I
just thought it would give me an opportunity to tell you that I have enjoyed all of your postings .
For me this turned out to be not so much a holiday more a state of the World. lol
One thing growing up in the Gorbals has taught me is always to be an optimist and this has stood me in good stead so far.!! I made a visit from France to Pittsburg PA. to see my sister and her husband who sadly lost there only son earlier in the year . i think i managed to cheer her up I think and I also met a few of her extended family . Due to my love of history we went to the Gettysberg National Battlesite on the 30 th September. It was about a 3 hour drive and we drove through a tunnel under the Appalacian Mountains
and saw the beautiful rustic red and orange colours which are carpeting the whole mountain range.
Our tour guide was brilliant and he knew and took us all around the Battlefield site and to his credit recounted the whole of the 3 day battle in 1863 at most of the important places. brilliant.!
Before leaving i sat next to a bronze statue of Abraham Lincoln and when I heard that the next day
the Federal government shut all of the National Parks and when I looked at me and Abe,s photo next
day the f


irst of October I thought how Ironic it was that an African American President should make the decision to close all the parks and Lincoln s mandate to abolish slavery back in 1863 and his political will succeeded to pave the way for the present day situation.
Returned back to Heathrow and my wife and I got the Train from Basing stoke to Ayr changing at GLASGOW for Ayr. M y brother in law dropped us off at Scotland Street Underground Station and firstly
the ticket office could only give me three pounds of twenty pence pieces in my change and more
amazingly when I stood on the platform waiting for the train I lifted my arms up and held them horizontal and by doing this it showed to me just how tiny those platforms are.!!
One of the other reasons for my visit was that I would try and gauge a few opinions about what my family and friends views were on Independence and also what people thought about the need for so many wind farms. <Applications for 36 Windfarms are applied for every week in Scotland and I got varying interesting answers to both subjects. I managed to walk from Straiton near Maybole to a place called Loch Cornish and the views and Scenery as you may well imagine was spectacular and iwas trying to imagine this walk in say 10 years if say one of the nearby projects gets the go ahead at Dursallac.??? Will Scotland be like a pin cushion eventually if you looked at it from outer Space in say 40 to 50 years time . Finally my 55 minute flight back to France from Southampton to Nantes left on time but due to to adverse weather conditions and 10 minutes from landing the Captain took the
plane back up and we ended up one hour late.!! A bit of a white knuckle ride.
Finally Amelia thanks for your patience on this reply and like you I had a birthday on the 13th October and amazingly I will get my first State pension payment next month.!!! lol
Also because my wife is English she struggled to understand the Shop assistants and I became a
TRANSLATOR during the shopping trips and i thought that the shops were amazing.

It sound as if you had a marvellous holiday I've only been to Florida but I've been a few times to Canada, my niece said that the native Indians have a hard time over there.

My husband has written a trilogy and it has been published on the kindle he comes under Jeremiah McKinlay it has a lot about Indians in it he's had a few sold but we'll never be millionaires as he only charged less than a £ for it, anyway money isn't everything your health is your wealth.

Glad you had a holiday to visit your sister and her husband in Pittsburg and I'm sure you did cheer her up, yes America is going through traumatic times but as I write I do believe that a deal has been done and the National parks etc have all opened up again. Going to the Gettysburg National battlesite and seeing the Appalacian mountains must have been a wonderful experience for you and your wife Reg, yes the subway in Glasgow is not like the London tube but I always remember that "smell" when you go in to the Glasgow subway . There is a "Subway crawl" as opposed to a "pub crawl" and people get out at every subway station and have a drink in the nearest bar, I know because when I was back in Glasgow I was sitting in the Laurieston bar which is close to Bridge st Subway and all of a sudden 30 people [mostly young] came into the pub and stayed there for a couple of quick drinks and then off toe the subway for the next station and the next pub, oh it's great when you're young ha ha . As for Independence for Scotland I'm all for it personally, the wind farms I think look horrendous but if they're going to supply energy for the future ?. Sorry to hear you and your wife had a "white knuckle ride "in the 'plane, speak later Reg.
