Thanks to everyone who wished my granddaughter all the best. She had a wonderful time in Cuba it was on a little island and all the folk came over from Havanna. She said that they worked for peanuts but they were all brilliant. We had her "Do" on Saturday night up in the Redhurst in Clarkston just coming back to normal my bones were all sore on Sunday to much dancing or should I say trying to dance"
I wish I would have went to the Diamonds in Gorbals street when I was young it was part of the Palace building do you remember it. they had two halls one was for the learners and the other for the people who could dance.
Did you take a stroll up to the Plaza at Eglington Toll Danny it is all made into flats some of them are still lying empty or are up for let, thy left the façade on it but tore the rest to bits another building away.
I think all the dance bands are all finished except the guy who played either up the town or the Plaza anyway he is still playing must be over 90 he plays in a place off Hope St called Pivos but there is no dancing you only listen to him play plenty of feet tapping in that hall
Anyway I am away past the dancing stage and also my bedtime so goodnight to you all I'm away to dream about dancing like Carmen Miranda or dancing with Fred Astaire

Glad your grandaughter had a great time in Cuba that's what holidays are all about, I was never a good dancer Amelia but I tried my best [Ah you've stood on mah toe I was often told !!!]. Yes I took a bus trip past the Plaza and it's not there anymore, everywhere I look is all changed. I remember I liked having a beer in the Star bar or McNees for Dutch courage before going into the PLaza. Got a weekly bus pass for £14 and it took me all over the place which was great, I remember last year when I visited Glesga I got a bus pass for the first time but didn't know what bus's to get on as the numbers/destinations had all changed from the 1960's but after making a few mistakes I got the hang of the bus routes and this year I knew what bus's to get . Starting to save up for my next visit to Glesga next year but being on the pension it will take me the best part of a year [at putting by a few pounds each week] to save up for it. The Soo-Side has all changed I'm afraid but at least the Toon is more or less the same, I looked at Lewis's building in Argyle st and remembered when I was a wean going up in the lift to the toy department and looking at "Dizzy" corner at Union/Argyle st where I had been stood up on a date ha ha . Walking through the Argyle arcade and up to Georges square and along Sauchiehall st with all its shops while having a few beers in the many bars [hic] but everywhere I looked I saw people of all ages sitting down in the streets and begging, that was a sad sight to see. Prices in the pubs were very reasonable £2-2.50 for a beer [Weatherspoons prices very reasonable] whereas in London its £4+ for a pint . Ah well thats me finished for a wee while now Amelia, so take care and God Bless.

Glad you had a good time Danny visiting back to Glesga and you getting the hang of all the buses.
I think the only landmark in the Oatlands is the church that is in Polmadie Road and the bowling green and the "ducksie pond". Did you notice that they have made a new main Road it runs parallel with the old one, at first I couldn't fathom it out but the more you go along it you get the hang of it.
Did you not have a pint in the bowling club.
The Plaza bar is long gone but the Star bar is still there and there, there are a few pubs still on "Vicky" Rd. and I think Paddy Neesons is still in Govanhill there but that is a no go area for a lot of people
The Granite City still does a good bit of trade especially when there are big matches on at Hampden.
I forgt to say that there was a pub in Union St. it used to be called the Goose don't know if they have changed their name but they do the "happy hour" ad the prices are quite good so I've been told
