Hi All,

I can remember my Mum taking me to the Metropole Theatre on many occasions, I think it was a Sunday evening we went but I'm not sure, I just remember it being on a Sunday for some reason. Sitting in the Gods, with a fantastic panorama of the stage, I always felt sorry for the people sitting in the Stalls, not realising of course that they were the privileged and paid a lot more for their seats!!!!

The variety acts were fantastic, singers, comedians, song and dance performers, jugglers and circus acts. I seen so many of them and of course compered by the great Jimmy Logan.

I wont give you the list of all the famous people, some of whom were just starting out in show biz, I can remember. DID YOU GO TO THE MET LIKE ME? WHO DO YOU REMEMBER SEEING? CAN YOU REMEMBER THE NOW WORLD FAMOUS BUSKER WHO ENTERTAINED THE CROWD WAITING TO GET IN?

I too remember going to the metropole with my parents up in the Gods I remember Jimmy Logan I think his saying was "sausages are the boys" but maybe I'm wrong it's been that long. His sister Annie done well in America in fact there was a programme on not that long ago on tv and all the well known jazz singers were praising how good she was but she didn't come under Annie Logan it was another name which escapes me at the senior moment I am having. I cannot remember the busker but I remember there was always a busker at the Colosseum in Eglington St when there was a big queue but I think there were buskers all over Glasgow at that time

Yes the late great Jimmy Logan [I think Logan was his stage name, Smart was his real surname ??] and sausages are the boys was a catch phrase of his, I remember reading with sadness years ago Jimmy was told he was terminally ill but like a true trooper he kept on working on stage and just shortly before he died he gave a rousing rendition of "keep right on to the end of the road" on the stage to tremendous applause. I can't remember the name of the famous busker John [hope you tell us later , but let a few others guess first ].
I must admit I never went to the Met John so can't recall the name of acts [sorry].

My memories of the Metropole was a quarter of coconut fingers out of Birrels, then round to join the queue in Ropework lane for the "Second Hoose " . When the "first hoose" finished we saw some of the acts ,coming out the stage door,still in full make-up , running round for a fish supper before the second. Surreyboy.
