Who was the best teacher you ever had and why ???

Maybe you had a few who taught you one thing you never forgot or who just treated you well.

So friends of this site...give us some feedback !!! Please no negative replies.

PS: Here in New Jersey, it is much warmer today...34 degs. F...but tomorrow back down to 14 degs. F.
I am ready for winter to be done with...

I went to Camden Street School from 1955 till 1962...my qualifying teacher was miss Ferguson, she was a treasure of a woman, always calm and very caring....the "headie" was Mr Scott and he was the best. Had a little office all red velvet and a cosy fire always burning in the fire place in the corner......I loved that wee school left me full of happy memories. Marching into class to the marching tunes, cosy dinner times with lovely tasty lunches.....treasured memories

Going back to my primary school [wee Bonnies] my favourite teacher Was Mr Jimmy D'Arcy, he really was a great character and was always cracking jokes to us boys and girls, he woulds say what is an anorak we would reply a kind of coat Sir. No he would say it's a shelf for hanging bananas on !!!!, or what is the meaning of the word abundance and again some one would say "plentyful" no Mr D'Arcy replied it's a cookie doing the cha cha.
I remember years later when I had finished my 5 year apprenticeship as a bricklayer I was working on a building site in Glasgow [1968] and working beside a another brickie who asked me what school did I attend and I replied wee Bonnes, surprise surprise he said my brother Jimmy D'Arcy taught there, well cut a long story short John and me went to Celtic park one Saturday after work where we met up with his brother [and my old teacher]. What a laugh we had in the pub that day after the match had finished and he was still cracking jokes, what a great teacher and he made the time go in quick at school for all my class.

Yes I have to agree with you there , your Mother's words of wisdom stay's with you for the rest of your life, one saying my own Ma had was in regards to getting married was "your mate will either make you or break you " and as I grew up in life I could see the wisdom of her words. How's life treating you Frank ? hope that all is well with you and family.

Best teachers in descending order at my secondary school Yoker on the
Dumbarton Road was "Big Harry ", loved enthusiasm about history of Glasgow and
surrounding areas of Scotland . "Wee Dan <Mr tierney > An English Lesson with him involved
him distributing to the all male class of all the recent comics Beano , Topper etc . and the third
teacher who i had a soft spot for was Miss Blake .However when the class upset her she would
really "Explode" and her face went as read as Beetroot.!! I enjoyed Woodwork with Mr.Phaill
who was in the Parachute Regiment during the War and had his back riddled with a few bullets
but what a brilliant teacher.
Happy days but there were a few characters in the Playground
The funniest one was "Titch McCoo" and he always made me laugh and he never seemed to
have a care in the World.!!!

Hi Everyone my favourite in secondary was a miss Hughes she was a French teacher in Holyrood she was a doll we were her first pupils as she had just started there all the men teachers used to ogle her she was a cracking looking woman and the other one was miss Carrol she was in primary I think that was her name. funny how you remember some things and others you don't

Hi Gang,
Just to say that I mentioned my best teacher as Mr Jimmy D'Arcy but on the opposite side of the coin we had a teacher called a Miss Henrietta, a wee frump of a person and what a missery guts, always moaning and complaining we all hated getting taught by her [thank God that was only in very early years]. I also found out later in life if you worked with people who were smiling and happy that would make you feel the same way too just like a good teacher but work with a moaner then your day seems like a week, speak later gang.
