Hi, would anyone be able to tell me what were the names of the local Catholic Churches in the early 1900s in the Gorbal area of Glasgow and are they still in existence? Thanks x

Hello Erin,
The only catholic church still active in the Gorbals area is Blessed John Duns Scotus which was formerly known as St Lukes. It is the home to the Franciscans who vacated the St Francis buildings in the 1990's.
Of the older churches in the area then the ones I am aware of were:
St Francis Cumberland St (In use as St Francis Centre and sheltered housing complex.
St Johns, Portugal St (Demolished)
St Bonaventures, Old Rutherglen Rd (Demolished)
St Lukes, Ballater St
During the early part of the 1900's then there may have been other catholic churches due to the density of the population in the area at that time.
Hope this is a start point for further information.
