Hi, just following up messages left last July. Looking for pals of my mother Mary Black/Donnelly. Born 1944, attended St.Lukes & then Holyrood. First job at the Co-op where she met best pal Ruth Thompson, who has just got in touch from Canada (sorry Ruth lost your email address!) also anyone remember Mary's younger sister Catherine who went to St.Bonnie's.

My father was William Johnston (b 1903) of Dunoon, his mother, Granny Brawley lived in Rotten Row (b. approx 1860). Fathers brother was a Brawley? as was Aunty Jess Brawley of Partington Road Aberdeen. Must have been half brother/sister? Can anyone help with geneology. Thanks.

I'm making a scrap book for my mothers 70th birthday. She was born in 1934 in Commerce Rd - I think? Jane Berry was her families name. She often speaks about St Francis and St Bonaventures is that the correct spelling? Would anyone know her or have any details that would help me. Thanks

My father, Martin McAreavey, born in Belfast in 1881, lived for a long time in Glasgow, I believe in the Gorbals area. His sister Minnie married a Glaswegian Alex McIntyre. Both had moved to the Blackburn/Chorley area by the 1920s. I would be interested to hear from anyone who knows any information about them.

Hi wee Betty, I posted off a few photos to Patrick in England today. He is going to scan them and e-mail them to you before posting them back. They are only mainly of my immediate family. They will include James Cryand, Meryn & Leanne Cryans, Dolcy Cryand, Peter Cryan, and Aggy Cryans. Oh yeah and a couple of us grandchildren. That is all we have at the moment as my cousin took the rest to make an album for my gran. However, I will also be sending them to Patrick in a few weeks so you will get to see them as well. Do any old timers remember my fathers family from Lawmoor st? There was my Dad Jimmy, Lawrie, Alex, Robert, George, William, John and a sister called Nan. My Grandads name was Lawrence Warren and I think he ran a grocers shop. Rumour has it that some hard ticket who worked for Capone in the States returned to Glasgow and tried to muscle in on his shop. Legend has it that he picked on the wrong family and was advised to get his apples somewhere else!!!! Anyone out there remember the Warrens from Lawmoor St?

Gi di Kristal that's a great idea I may be able to send some photos to you and see if there is a family resemblance. I'm sure there must be my maw was Nellies sister Lizzy. I lived with Nellie as much as my own home, her sons and daughters looked after me like their little sister. Sadly the only 1 left of Nellies is Ester, I still keep in touch with her I'll e-mail you were all the relations in oz live but this bit is for the Gorbals site awe ra best wee betty.

Hi Kristal of Lithgow Oz. Nellie Cryans was my auntie, she married my uncle Tommy Kidd who was my dads brother. His other brothers were James, Stewart, Joe and Eddie. His sisters were Bridget and Susan Kidd, maybe your mother remembers them? Thank you for the mention Bob.

Hi James Steen ask Acky if he remembers 1955 Barraland, we went to see the Lemons (nickname for the girls) we had a set too wi the toy at the roller door of the barras. My name is the same as "baby face", he knows who that is, he knows who I am - fair curly hair, did body building and hung around the "cumbie" wi Chick McQueen mostly. See how his memory is awe ra best ten quid.

Looking for relatives of my father born 1922 whose parents were Robert Wilson and Sarah Todd (Married June 1917). My father lived in 64 Muse Lane before moving away. Would like to know if he had any brothers or sisters or if anyone remembers the family trying to compile family tree. My father passed away at a very young age hence unable to ask him questions.

I am trying to help my sister find her father his name is Mark Johnstone. I think he comes from Glasgow he will be in his mid to late 70's. He was living in Grantham in 1961 he knows he has a daughter but because of various reasons they have not met since Anne was a baby but she would dearly love to meet him. If anyone can help we would be very grateful.

The Gorbals is full of memories for many people...remember the old flea pit, the George Cinema in Crown Street, Peter the paperman at the bank close, the lavvies at Gorbals Cross, the Britania Bar, Cha Pa pa's fish and chip shop in Crown Street and Mrs Zeki's in Gorbals Street...Murray's newsagents, the Cumbie gang with shouts of CUMBIE YA BASS, the swing park in Rutherglen Road, Lockies shop, The Turf, the Wheatsheaf, the Rose Garden, going to Saint Lukes, Saint Francis, Saint Johns or even Bonnies, Adelphi or Holyrood. It's all like a distant dream now.

Hi again. Thanks to those who responded to my last enquiry. I'm wanting a map or street plan of old Hutchensontown - can anyone help? Is there any detailed history of Hutchensontown in the 1870's? My great great Grandmother who was a Seamstress gave birth to a son at 40 Rose St Hutchensontown on Jan 6th 1871. Apparently there was a very extensive Cotton Factory owned by Somerville + sons there at this time. Maybe she and other Nairns had worked there? Does anyone studying family history have any knowledge about this sort of thing that they could share with me. I'm trying to build up a picture of what sort of lives they may have lead in this era and in this part of Glasgow. I'd be keen to hear from anyone who knows about this. Regards Kerry Nairn
