Swings

Post by amelia »

Hi All does anyone remember the swings that was at the gushet of Cathcart Rd./Pollokshaws Rd they were in the grounds that the railway club stood that was "oor swings", many a great time we had there but we didn't have good roundabouts like they had in the Gilmour St swing park. We had to hang over the metal frame with our wee legs dangling and "haud on" like grim death in case we fell off them.
 How many swing park did we have in the "Sooside" get your thinking caps on guys

Amelia, there was another one between Naburn Street and Camden Street..We used to call them "The American Swings." Can't think of any other that we went to besides the one you mentioned on Gilmour Street..

Hi Gang,
I always remember going to the swings in Gilmour st [Oatlands square ??] I would play on the swings if there was an empty one available then after 5 minutes my Ma or my Granny would shout out right come on wev'e got to get to the shops in Cumberland st but all I could think of was the return journey, walking back through the Pen[d] from Sandyfaulds st, Moffat st and then running to the swings again for another wee while. Yes happy memories indeed.

Regards.
Danny :)

Hi Amelia,
I meant to say in my last post in regards to how many swing parks in the soo-side, well as I left the soo-side in 1961 [just as the high rises were going up], I would say 5 but I'm probably wrong, the ones at = Cleland lane/Rutherglen Rd, Hutcheson square beside Camden St, Oatlands Square beside Gilmour St, Richmond park with monkey bars too and the one you mentioned at the gushet of Cathcart/Pollockshaws Rd's.
Regards.
Danny :)
