My father, Alex Goldie (b. 1922) and older brother Thomas grew up in the Gorbals, not sure of their address. My father left in 1948 for Canada (Vancouver) and Thomas remained. Does anyone remember the family? Thomas had three children, Thomas jr, Anne, and Alex.

I was born in 156 Florence st. I have 3 brothers and 3 sisters ma name is Cathie Welsh. Ma brothers Tommy, Andrew who died 10 years ago and Joe. Theres also Betty, Senga and Tricia we all went to st.lukes. We left the sooside in 1950, went to st vincents for a year then to holyrood. I hated carnwadric at first I used to run back to ma maw (granny) but was dragged back. I loved the sooside knotts at the bottom of florence st. My da used to say that mr knott stood on the dumpling to wash his windows and polished it when it went back on the counterreading. All the different stories brings it all back, yes there was bad times but there was good times and most of the time we were happy. We were all in the same boat, love to hear from anyone who remembers me.

FAO Davie Ross of Canada I remember Jimmy Logan well his saying was "Sausages are the boys" or something like that. I remember queuing up the lane with my mother and sisters and brother to see the Logan family, the lane is still there and the Scotia Bar is still on the same site. We used to go also to the Princess theatre which is now called the Citizens theatre you had to queue up in Old Rutherglen Rd. to get into the "Gods" of the theatre. Sometimes they shone a torchlight around the theatre and whoever it stopped at won a prize my auntie Katie won a zinc pail in those days that was a great prize to win.

Does anyone remember the Callaghan's who lived in the Gorbals? My father Peter Martin Callaghan was the son of Jane Martin and Francis Callaghan. Both my uncles James and Richard lived in the Gorbals until they were moved to Maryhill. My father, Peter was in the Argylls and left Scotland in the 1920's. He eventually emigrated to South Africa where he married my mother and where I was born. I live in Scotland now and work at Glasgow University. I am trying to find out where my grandfather was buried and trace people in my grandmother Jane Martin's family as well. I would be grateful for any help. Cheers!
