I have just joined the site today, I was taken back to my childhood between 1953 to 1963 seeing the photo of Errol Street on the website. I stayed in the tenement on the far right of the pic' Number 11 two stories up. I was also a member of the boys guild in the picture, father Aquinas was the main figure at the time, at the door on the right father Roderick said I should join the pipe band, as a child I thought the kilt was a skirt and my pals would ridicule me therefore I refused, I used to take enough of a ribbing when I was dressed up in my satin shirt and patent leather shoes with buckles for the mayday parade and walked throughout the Gorbals behind the pipe band. ( A lot of my pals were from the protestant faith, not an issue most of the time except at religious festivals and my mum got me dressed up in the aforementioned.) I relate to and enjoyed a lot of the anecdotes on the website and will come back from time to time.

Hi Tommy...Welcome to the Gorbals site...It is just great and good for a lot of us old ones to have their memories brought up-to-date...Do you remember a McTigue family that lived on Errol Street?..There was a girl named Jean McTigue who was in my class in St. Francis...I always remember her because she had the same birthday as me...We were at St. Francis from around 1942/43 until about 1950...Margaret

Hi Tommy/ Margaret welcome to the site Tommy as we have a great crowd on here. Margaret Jean McTigue hair was red my pal lived up your close no. 1 I think they were top flat Anna & Billy Gray they both went to St Fancis school.

Yes, Amelia, Jean McTigue indeed had red hair...I always wondered what happened to her..
Christmas day was a not good here...my hubby and I were very sick with the cold and had to postpone all our activities...He has bronchitis and I am just starting to feel a wee bit better myself...All the prezzies are still under the tree as I do not want everyone to come here and then they would get sick, too...So I guess we will have a postponed Christmas next week...Stuff happens and we just have to deal with it best we can...I skyped my sister, Sally, in Italy then Ann and then Helen...It was good to talk to them...That made my Christmas. Welcome to the group it's a great wee meeting place for us all to share our memories and have a good lugh. I hope you all had a nice Xmas, I went to have Xmas dinner with my 3 daughters+son in laws + grand weans it was a great day having all the family together. Although I must say I think that the true meaning of Jesus Christs birth has been mainly lost due to the greed of shops urging people to buy buy buy presents. Don't get me wrong as I love to see the expressions of glee on the weans faces on opening their presents but it's really all so commercialised nowadays. I remember in the soo-side when we were weans it was one toy and maybe an orange/tangerine in a sock and we were thrilled, where as today if weans don't get the latest "computer" games etc then it's no good. Many parents are finding it hard to get by on a weekly basis and can ill afford these expensive gifts. When I was at my own families Xmas dinner my grand weans got countless and countless numbers of presents and I thought this is just too much with hardly a mention of the birth of Our Lord. I don't want to come over as a spoilsport but I felt I just had to comment on this, what do you all think ?.
