Anecdote My Uncle ARTIE AUSTIN passed away in New Jersey on the 18 June 2012 after a long illness.Artie was the only brother to Roberta Austin who died in 1993. They lived in Snowdon Street. Artie has been married for 39 years to Mary , they have 3 sons Edward Garry Robert . Artie will be great missed by his loved one . Forever Lament .

Anecdote Can anyone help me to locate a donald mathieson/matheson who resided in the glasgow area in 1970, i was adopted in ayrshire central and he might not even know i was born,he met my mother from girvan and i know nothing about him or his family, i would dearly love to find out any information from any mathieson/matheson family, my father would be 70-80 years old now, he used to be a sign writer, i am 42 years old now and would love the oppertunity to find out about him,his whereabouts,his life,and if he is still alive, and if i have brothers or sisters out there...please send any information you may have to muriellebain@yahoo.co.uk any help would be very gratefull, many thanks

Anecdote My Dad Harry Smith, one of 8 from Kinning Park, Brothers were Bobby Robinson, John Smith, Sydney Smith,Paddy Smith, Lucy Smith, Hazel Smith and Patsy Smith - all born and bred Glesga folk, I was born in Kames St in 1959, school was Buchan St, Wolseley St and Adelphi Secondary - was part of the winning football team for Wolsely St in 1968/69 when we beat blackfriars 6-5 in the final, Jim Baxter came to presnt the cup which had been bought by Headmistresses Mrs Bryce's husband before he died - I also remember Leslie "Lego" Dickenson, Peter Reid, George Sutherland, a William, a Ronnie and a Francis, my teacher at Wolseley St was aMrs Wallersetein - would love tyo hear from her she was a gem!

Anecdote Have just returned to the site after a few years. I am going through backwards to catch up. Here's a couple of things brought to mind after reading some of the postings: SITTING IN A BIG CIRCLE IN THE MIDDLE OF THISTLE STREET (nae cars tae worry aboot): Whoever was IT would run around and in and out the circle while we all sang, I sent a letter to my love and on the way I dropped it, I dropped it once, I dropped it twice, I dropped it three times over over, over in amongst the clover. (Over was repeated many times until the letter was dropped beside one of the seated or, absent a letter, someone was tapped on the shoulder by whoever was IT). Then the tapped player would get up and try to catch the tapper, IT, who would run around and in and out the circle to try to get seated in the vacated spot before she got tagged by the chaser. ABBOTSFORD PRIMARY SCHOOL Anyone who attended Abby in the late 40s would probably remember that some of the pupils were given music lessons by an elderly gentleman and his son who volunteered their time at various Glasgow schools. I remember many times when playtime was over we lined up in orderly fashion and marched inside and up the stairs to the strains of violins playing, of all things, The Trumpet Voluntary. It sounded great and it was a good marching tune but I guess they couldnae afford trumpets. I think the violins were on loan. I can hear them playing to this day. I also remember that a brother of one of the boys in my class, whose name was Harry Boyle, was in the musical group.

Anecdote My dad JAMES SMYTH from Thistle Street in the Gorbals (who was a boxer and bouncer at the Portland Dancing)is trying to find an old friend called PATRICK JOSEPH HEANEY who was married to Doreen and emigrated to America in 1967. My dad hasn't seen him for 45 years and would love to know if anyone knows of his whereabouts now. He thinks he may have moved to New Jersey and he had a young son at the time called James Patrick Heaney (named after my dad, his Godfather). Pat Heaney would be approximately 73 years old now and may have moved back or still lives there. If anyone has any information or knows any of his relatives, please get in touch. My dad always talks about him and would be keen to catch up with him.
