Fibre glass curtains

Post by amelia »

Does anyone remember "fibre glass curtains" they were all the rage years ago everyone had them.
One day the "Heady" sent for me at the primary school where my kids went to and said that she would have to get the nurse to look at them as all they did was scratch themselves, she said maybe they have "scabbies" I was affronted and said no my weans my weans are clean.
Anyway they went to the nurse who said they didn't have "scabbies" but maybe it was the soap powder I was using. The brain was ticking trying to figure out what it was and I told my ma it turned out that I had washed their underwear and clothes along with my fibre glass curtains seemingly particles come of the material and they had went into the clothes and that is what made them scratch themselves .
Took me ages to get them back to normal.

Hi Amelia,
Talking about fibre glass making you itchy, well we all learn by our mistakes. Being a bricklayer for over 46 years [retired now, yipeee] we sometimes inserted sheets of fibre glass into the cavity of walls we were building. In the summer months I always wore shorts and a T shirt which left your legs and arms exposed to "the itchy stuff"and I remember the first time using these sheets I finished work and went back to my digs and had a hot shower. Oh what a mistake as the hot water opened up your pores and I was in agony for days after, an older bricklayer told me always have a cold shower as your pores close [as opposed to hot when they open] then that way the fibre glass spores will just wash away from your body. Yes Amelia we live and learn alright ha ha.
