Does anyone remember when your ma bought the socks out of the wool shop and they started to get holes in them she would cut so much from the holes and take them into the wool shop and they would put new feet in them. They were like a new pair of socks when you got them back when it was time to go back to school after the holidays you had to get them into the shop quick to have them ready in time. I'm going back 60+ years so maybe some of you aren't as old to remember this.

I can remember those days and sometimes you would say to your Ma WHY can I no wear Wellies to school, yes we might not have had much money Amelia but we had a great upbringing and a tight knit community spirit.

HI Amelia...Aye, I remember the socks we called "Top Hose." Mostly, they were a gray colour and had a couple of coloured bands of green or blue or whatever colour you liked around the top...You pulled them all the way up and then folded them over so the bands of colour were down around your ankles...I was the darner of the socks in our house and you got the darning wool in the Wool Shop, too...Up and down you went over the hole not pulling it tight and then back and forth through the strands of wool actually weaving the hole with all new wool...It was hell to wear on your heel as it stuck out and annoyed you when you had your shoes on...By-the-way, your card to my son, Charlie, to celebrate his, hmmmph..I hate to say it, 50th birthday was great...He loved it and, you know what, it was in a Classic Car Club so the antique car you put on the front was very appropriate...Everyone loved it...You are so imaginative and crafty..(Oh in a good way, Amelia.) Thanks for the memories...
