Hi All my sister brought up a newspaper clipping from the Daily Maily March 30th 2013 of the Gorbals 1948. one of them was taken in the graveyard in Rutherglen Road with the boys jumping over the gravestones a woman sitting in her Bedford street junk shop, trying to remember where that was maybe between Portugal St. and Eglington St.
Maybe Norrie or Jimbo has seen these. They have been taken with a guy named Bert Hardy whose photo of the Gorbals boys became famous.

Re: photos in daily mail of grobals
Hi, Amelia,
I didn't see the article but I found it online including all the photographs.
Can be viewed here > http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... slums.html
Edit: I just noticed the first of the comments at the very bottom pointing out the difference between 50 Pence/Ten Shillings then and now, the article claims that Bert Hardy bought his first camera from a Pawn Shop for 50 Pence. To put that into perspective, when I was conscripted into the Royal Air Force in the 50's I received 10 shillings (50 Pence) A WEEK!!

Re: photos in daily mail of grobals
Love these pictures and I, along with my pals, used to play in the graveyard on Rutherglen Road...No girls in this photo...Got lots of grazed legs leaping over these gravestones..
The picture of the social club...Could this be The League of the Cross Hall on Errol Street??...They had billiard/snooker tables in there and I remember this as we used to use the upstairs hall for Country Dancing with the Girls' Guild and had to walk past the tables to get to the stairs.

Just an update on that article claiming that the camera was bought for 50 Pence.
Using the Retail Price Index in 1930 10 shillings would have been worth £25.95 in 2011.
Using Average Earnings, the 1930 10 bob note would have been worth £77.50 in 2011.

Amelia, that was Bedford Lane which started at Gorbals St...it continued into Bedford Street. Also, Bedford Row ran from Liptons, down behind the Gorbals baths.
