Does anyone remember Cavendish St at Eglinton? I lived at no. 60 above the Dollar Rae Store. Knew a Jim Campbell and a Davie Craig, left there in 1957 or 58.

This one is for Tommy Deehan who has such vivid memories of his days with the Rancel. I remember the team too... or more accurately, my mum washing the team strips in the sink at McNeil Street. You did well remembering Shug Wiseman and Tommy. He and my dad, Billums Taylor and my uncle - Davy McLean were great mates and ran the team together for a few years in the fifties. My dad claimed that they "sold" Pat Crerand for a set of strips and some corrugated iron... me thinks this may have been something of a tale but hey who knows. He had a similar story for Frank McLintock! Anyway, its nice to know that there are still some folks out there who remember the good ol' days and that they weren't all about razor weilding and money lending... as my mum never tired of saying, there was more good folks come out of the Gorbals than there ever was bad! My grandfather was born in Glasgow and his family ran a pub called Molloy's in the Gorbals for a number of years (my guess would be between WW1 and the end of WW2). I have occasionally heard the name of the pub in connection with Benny Lynch the boxer, and have spoken to one or two people who were in the pub itself many years ago. I was hoping to find a photo of the bar (through a photo archive service) that I might be able to buy. Or any other info that might be of interest. I have checked the virtual mitchell website, so far with no luck! Any info that you (or your parents/grandparents) might have would be great. Such as, do you know which street the pub was on? If you think you can point me in the right direction, I'd be very grateful, thanks Sean.

Does anyone remember me (I was known as Ludo at school). Schools were Oatlands Primary and Adelphi Secondary. My family ran the fish and chip shop in Braehead St at the corner of Rutherglen Rd, next to the Braehead Bar and just across the street from the Ritz picture house. I left Scotland in the seventies, went to England, then New Zealand then moved to Australia where I have been ever since. Would be interested to hear from anyone who does remember me. Or if you don't remember me, perhaps you remember my brother Aldo? He has just returned home after visiting us here in Australia.

Who remembers "Wee Murrins, Murns" on Sandyfaulds Street? Her wee shop was to the left of the gates to St. Francis School on Sandyfaulds Street (The infant playground). She was a wee, tiny woman and only came up to the top of the counter. She sold glasses of ginger in wee whisky glasses for a penny a time. She sat by the fire in her wee shop and wore a shawl over her shoulders all the time. God help her she was the object of a lot of ridicule now that I think of it. Of course, not by me

I remember so well "DIRTY MAGGIE'S" bookstore on Rutherglen Rd, also remember "May Dick's" store which was also on Rutherglen Rd, and the "Cumbie Gang" as I was from Moffat Street. Would love to hear from any old friends from that "era". Those were the days!!

To the relatives of the Fogell family, there is a picture of Fogell's shop in the book about the Gorbals I mentioned earlier. The book also includes Laurieston, Hutchesontown and Oatlands. Loads of pictures of all the old streets. To Edward McGaughan - I have a newspaper picture of the E.E's from the Evening Times series Millennium Memories.

My daughter researched this website and I'm overjoyed to read all the nostalgic reminises of Glasgow and my old stamping ground. No more Barmans left now just a heap of old grave stones. We lived in the 1st floor tenement at 664 Eglinton Toll. I attended Cuthbertson St and Queens Park schools. I was born 1937 and (Freda my sister) 1933. Is Netta (Devon St) still in Glasgow? Penny Bernstein (Thistle St circa 1940's), a great pal still in America? Mrs Browns Bakery shop off Gorbals St, corner Rutherglen Rd, run by Issac sold superb cakes, my sister married him. We also bought Baigell's from Fogell's - great stuff! Does anyone remember the Sunday night dances at the Jewish Institute on South Portland St? (Strutting and eyeing up the talent) Plaza Ballroom just off the Toll - Victoria Rd. Who can remember? Tuesday nights birrowing around the fountain like Fred Astaire/Ginger Rodgers. Great memories!!!
