Old pubs.
Re: Old pubs.
Danny, it was Amelia who mentioned it, that's why I asked her for information. Jimbo, I've been a member of a few old pub sites for years, and none of us can get any info anywhere on the web, re Barney's Bar. But it did exist under that name...my friend had to go into it every evening after school, and wait for her mammy to finish her shift.

Re: Old pubs.
The pubs I remember on Moffat Street were: Dick Barton's at the corner of Moffat Street and Rutherglen Road, The Harmony Bar at the corner of Orchard Street and Moffat Street and there was one on the corner of Oregon Street and Moffat Street.cannot remember its name..I do remember my dad going to Barney's for a pint but cannot remember where it was...I have asked my sister, Ann, to ask John Jennings to see if he can remember where it was...
Re: Old pubs.
If it did exist, then it must have been granted a licence by Glasgow Corporation's Licensing Board who presumably have a record of when the licence was approved/issued.

Re: Old pubs.
OK, everyone...I just heard from my sister and she spoke to Betty Jennings today, that is John's wife...She said that The Bunodoran Bar on MATHESON STREET was owned by Barney Mundy...It was accross the street from St. Francis Boys' school...There was goine down the street from the Paragon...John the Pawn Shop then Cissie McCafferty's ( a wee dairy) and then Barney's then further down Tommy Malarkey's Ice Cream shop...Betty lived up Cissie McCafferty's close so she would know about the shops on the street...she also said that Barney's brother owned the pub at the corner of Sandyfaulds Street and Rutherglen Road..I think it was Dennis Harvey's..Not sure about the name..AGE....It was probably called the Bundoran Bar because he came from there in Ireland...
There may have been another pub on Moffat Street with an ownere Barney but they do not remember that..

Re: Old pubs.
Using the search button beside the FAQ link in the menu bar reveals that barney's bar was mentioned in November 2012 in a thread.DannyGill wrote:Hi Jimbo,
Sorry I must have made an honest mistake as I thought it was mentioned in a previous post , please accept my apology to you and Rose, I think it's good if you can hold your hands up and say I have made a mistake just like I have done.
Regards.
Danny
I think its fair to say that the internet does not yet have the sum of human knowledge, especially local detail, online. It is entirely possible that the bar existed and the name not having been registered in any way on official records. Not everything can be found through google. Rest easy Danny this story is still alive and open to others memories.
Keep on posting. Its only by sharing such memories that we build a more detailed picture of the past.

The Gorbals Admin
After Danny posted I tried using Search on the Top Line and got this:
Not Found
The requested URL /thegorbalsanecdotes/searchresults.html was not found on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
I didn't "see" the other search (probably because the top one is so obvious and jumps out at you?)
Anyway thanks for confirming that Danny was right.
I still think that, unless it was a shebeen, a record of a licence being issued must exist somewhere in the Licensing Board's records.

MY DA DRUNK IN THE HIHI.IN CROWN ST. BILLY
Re: Old pubs.
Billy, was there a Moffat Arms in Moffat Street? I know there was one in Eglinton Street...but the Barney's my friend's talking about was definitely not called the Moffat Arms...thanks anyway Billy.

Hi Rosie
Met one of my old neighbours son I think he is a bit on the young side to remember some things about Moffat St. but he has a relation who he'll ask if there are any photos kicking around of Barneys bar. Asked him if he knew your friends mum but he didn't know her.
I have still another person to ask but she stays down in Govanhill she was born in 450 Moffat St 70+ years ago and left when the place was being demolished in 1962/63 so maybe she will remember if I get the chance to bump into her.
