Freddy wish I had a penny for all the times I stood in the queue on a Friday in the chip shop in Cavendish St next to Mary Purries the sweetie shop.
We stayed in Salisbury St up until it was all demolished.

Fish and Chips
Re: Fish and Chips
Would that be a "New" penny or an "Old" real penny, Amelia!

Re: Fish and Chips
Hi Amelia. My auntie sent me for a whole load of fish and chips one Friday night. "mind and go to the Cavvy". She said. But I knew their would be a massive queue on a Friday night, so I just went round the corner to Chrissies in Pollockshaws rd, facing the Granite City Bar. There was hell to pay when I got back .Chrissies chips were rotten and I was in the dog house for weeks. Surreyboy.
Re: Fish and Chips

Re: Fish and Chips
Hi Tweedlie5 + Gang,
Yes I remember as I grew into a young man and started drinking in the pubs that the aroma coming from the chippy when the pubs closed was so mouth watering, I know the Chinese and Indian restaurants came along but the smell of the Fish and chip shop was something else, and maybe a few pickled onions as a bonus. Iv'e lived /worked in a few different countries and tried their fish and chips but ye canny beat the Glasgow fish supper.
Regards.
Danny

Re: Fish and Chips
The longest queue for a fish shop on a Friday night was probably the deep sea at the top of crown street, my mother would take me with her to get our fish suppers and it was fantastic!!!!!!!!!!
Re: Fish and Chips
Our chip shop was the same as Surreyboy there was always a big queue on a Friday night, maybe I stood next to you
