Hello, Amelia ,Danny , Everyone,
Amelia I could never grow a beard and some of the youngsters of today prefer to look "cool "
and not shaving and wearing torn jeans at the knees , earings and not forgetting the odd few
tattoos? Just trying to look different and cool in there own way. Good luck to them all . I remember
attending David Dale College in 1963 and there was a fellow student called Alan Stewart and
we nicknamed him "Boob " and I cant remember why? I rememder he was the the class comedian and he
had let his hair grow to past his shoulders and I remember thinking he looked pretty "Cool" and of course
that was the start of the Beatles era.So every generation is putting there own fashion and style mark.
I also watched Hotel India with interest and was interested in the different "Caste
system that they have or pecking order. My father was born in Calcutta and was educated at St.
Joseph,s School in Darjeeling and left that Country age 17. Wind forward 1959 and my father worked in the
Drawing Office of a Shipyard in Scotsoun earning about 20 pound a week .
On a couple of occasions my father met an Indian Sailor from one of Indian merchant ships in Glasgow and both my father and his aquaintance would be speaking in a very fast "Urdu".
The visitor did not speak a word of English but Iwas able to deduce from the conversation that he was
earning 1/6 < one and sixpence a week> at this time and we were a big family but this wee Indian guy
brought a gift to my mother of a seven pound bag of rice .
People can have so little yet give so much.
Danny amazing the Coincidence of the 13th Oct.
Take care and best regards Reg
