Anyone in Peterhead, Scotland knowing the James Philips (later Phillips), grandparents interred in Methodist church Cemetery, a fishing town then in the late 1800's. Please any help in finding more of the family there, thanks ever so much.

Hi, many thanks to all who pointed me in the right direction for scottish recipes, just one final word on scots food, anyone remember nougat wafers, sliders they called them, served with a big dollop of ice cream? Well you can buy them in most s/markets, they are made by THE CAROUSEL WAFER COMPANY CAMBUSLANG GLASGOW. Go on get yourselves a real oldie treat, try them!! Many thanks Jim.

I was born in the Gorbals in 1930 went to Gorbals primary school and later to Strathbungo. By chance I came across this web and it brings back so many wonderful memories. The names of streets, shops, cinemas etc. the scraped knees from climbing the dykes behind the collosem. The nostalgia is overpowering.

I am just back from a wonderful trip to Las Vegas were I met wonderful people there from all over Glasgow, it was the North American Federation of Celtic Supporters Clubs convention. It was a week to remember talking about the Gorbals and Glasgow in the old days, we had some great sing songs all that week and the banquet on the Friday June 17th was a night to remember, looking forward to the next convention in 2007 in Las Vegas. I will try again, we left the Gorbals in the fifties after the death of my mum, Mabel Elliot, nee Mochan. We lived at 17 Thistle st, any info on any of my family especially my fathers side or anyone who knew my mother, i will be most grateful? My father is a Mochan, his mother Bella, his father Charles. I believe Mary Ross was my grandmothers sister, I will be most grateful for any info, thank you, Denis.

FAO - Lorraine Neill. Lorraine, Benny Lynch is buried in St Kintergern cemetary in the Lambhill district of Glasgow. His gravestone is one of the largest in that particular area of the cemetary. If you need anymore info don't hesitate to get in touch.

Hi I forgot to mention my Granny, dads mum Murn and grandad Kennedy lived in Hospital St right above the bluebird pub. His sisters Cissy, Maggie and Agnes also stayed in the house with there husbands Tommy Boyle, Donald McIssacc and Jimmy mcMillenmy. Uncle Donald still lives in the Gorbals and also his family. My mum and dad have passed on now but I wish he was here to see all the names mentioned on this page its a great page glad I found it. There is no-one to beat us is there? I have been telling anyone about it who will listen. I hope someone out there remembers us we left Portugal St in about 1955 to go to Arden.

Hi does anyone remember the Kennedy family from 19 Portugal St, my dads name was Roddy and my mum was Sissy? I am 1 of 6 and am a twin my twins name is Pat she also lives in Glenrothes. I have 2 other sisters and 2 brothers they are Marie, Margaret, Roddy and John. We left Gorbals and went to live in Arden, my grandmother also lived at no 19 (ma whyte) still have family living there and see them often love to hear from anyone who remembers us.

Looking for pals of my mother Mary Black/ Donnelly. Posted on this site before and had responses from Ruth Thompson & Theresa Ramsey as school pals. Mary (Mum) born July 1944, attended St Luke's & Holyrood. Sister Catherine went from St Luke's to St Bonnys. Mum's mum, me granny, worked in Crown St & granda was a postie. Both me granny & her sister, my great aunt attended St Luke's, numerous Mary & Margaret Black's down the line. Mum's first job was at the Co-op. Other family, Aunt Cath, lived in Lawmoor St & godfather William Young was a joiner, with own business, who later moved to Rutherglen. Cathy, mum's younger sister married John Allardyce & moved to London from Springburn early 1960's. Any news greatly appreciated.

Jist a wee aside, it is being proposed, in Scotland, that there be a waiting period for the purchasing of kitchen knives! No kiddin' (Are we going to have The National Kitchen Knife Association to deal with?) also The "F" word was used for the first time in The Scottish Parliament.
