A bit about the new set up.
As with the whole of this new site, anyone can view the entries. If you wish to contribute then you will need to register first. This is for security and to stop the site being overrun with spam etc.
Once you have registered and your registration is activated then you can post wherever you wish.
Your registration will be activated and you will receive an email at your registered email address to let you know.
If you wish to begin a new topic then please feel free to do so. Just click the 'New Post' button.
All posts will be checked and before they appear on the forums. This is again to prevent abuse. There may be a short delay before your post appears but we shall try to keep this to the minimum.
This new set up allows you to communicate in a more organised manner with responses to posts being directly posted after the original post. Thus a dialogue can be better established.
As of 2013 the Anecdotes will not be arranged by month as in the previous years. They will appear as people insert them. Each anecdote is a new topic which people can respond to directly.
To do a search of the anecdotes then use the search button just below the 'past' link, beside the FAQ button. The bigger search box in the top right hand is for the rest of thegorbals website whereas the anecdotes are organised separately. Hope this is not too confusing.
The previous years anecdotes were organised in a month to month order for ease of access for people wishing to browse them. From now on we shall let the dialogues develop as they appear.
Any questions then please let me know. It is early days and only by using the forums will we be able to find areas where they can be improved.
Thank you for visiting.

Re: A bit about the new set up.
Hello Tweedlie5,
I take your point that there is a bit for people to get to grips with regards the new set up in comparison to the relative simplicity of the old site. I am sure it will be worth bearing with to get the benefit of it.
The old site was only simpler for the users as all you had to do was fill in the form and then send it. However when this message was then received then it was a very slow process for the messages to be passed to the person who was tasked with sorting them, uploading them and for them to then approve and edit and upload to the site. Inevitably the anecdotes were taking longer to be uploaded and the backlog resulted in big time gaps in anecdotes being uploaded as the organisation behind the site was in a continual state of change.
There are many more benefits to the new setup.
Registered users can post and see their messages almost immediately;
Images and videos can be posted directly into posts;
Dialogues can be developed within posts in a more organised and coherent manner
Posts are organised by heading allowing easier viewing of whats being discussed.
I hope that you can stick with us on this venture. There is literally no going back to the old site as it will be taken off line very soon. Noone is managing it now.
This new site has only been online now for about a month and there are 52 registered members with around 50 visitors a day so things are building up as more and more people are finding their way to this site.
Thank you for your anecdotes and hope you will continue to be able to access and enjoy the looking back.

of course I will persist
Re: A bit about the new set up.
I've asked how to post a video, but the reply is too confusing...remembering that we're pensioners, could you explain, in plain English, please. I' get stuck at "Copy text from Embed option". This is highlighted. I thought to Copy something, you ran the cursor through it...but when I do, the highlight disappears, and I have no Copy option. Help!
Rosedoyle: Posting youtube clips
I have to admit that it is confusing the first time you do it.
Go to Youtube and open the clip that you want to copy.
Below the clip you will see About Share plus a couple of other words.
"Share" will be "greyed out" but click on share anyway.
Clicking on Share gives you several options - click on Embed.
Clicking Embed will reveal a box with Highlighted text.
Put your cursor on the highlighted text and right click and choose Copy from the dropdown list.
Come back to the Gorbals and choose your thread.
Open the thread and go to the end of it then click on "Reply".
A new window opens for you to add your text and/or attachments etc>
At the top of this window are various options highlighted in black.
Click on the youtube Icon.
[youtube][youtube] will appear in the text field.
Your cursor will already be flashing in between both of the youtube symbols.
Right click and choose Paste from the dropdown menu
click on Submit
Edit:
You can try it out and if it doesn't work the first time, just click on Edit at the bottom right corner of YOUR
post and this opens a new window where you can change or delete text/attachments/YouTube clips or delete the entire post by checking the box marked Delete at the upper left corner, then click Submit. If you delete the post no one will even know that you tried!!

Re: A bit about the new set up.
Still won't work:( The link appears, but not the video...
Re: A bit about the new set up.
Rose, the mistake you are making is to copy the FIRST highlighted text that appears when you click on Share. You then must click on embed and text like this will appear highlighted > <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/slrsHl8dL5I" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Re: A bit about the new set up.
That's what I'm doing, but no luck...
Re: A bit about the new set up.
I still can't get used to the new setup ,I used to love reading all the gossip and memories but some how the fun and the magic has gone form the site ,I think that's why a lot of people don't bother so much now
