Gorbals video 1963

Post by pbmchugh »

Gorbals wedding 1961. Although I put this old 8mm movie on youtube as 'Gorbals wedding 1961' it was actual taken on the 23rd. April 1963. If you scroll down some of the comments are quiet remarkable. Watch out for the ‘scrabble’ at the end. Copyright issues have been resolved (hence the short irritating advert at the beginning) so feel free to pass on via facebook etc.

Great video, enjoyed watching it. Brought back some good memories, especially getting stuck in during the scramble :D

Thanks.

Hi Brian,
Got to say I really enjoyed the wedding and the Gorbals of the 60's coming to life, that was really magic and the scrabble when the happy couple drove off, aye happy memories and there was a lot of pushing and shoving trying to get to the pennies that was scattered on the road. I'm afraid the Gorbals cross of the 60's is well and truly gone now but our memories and your video will keep them alive for us, thanks again mate.

I think I recognised an old class mate in the wedding video. Her name was Maureen Dunlop who lived in Nicholson St. Margaret Forbes.

I enjoyed your wedding video I too was married out of St. Johns in 1956 only 21 I was, it was Father Boyle he was made a Canon. Our wedding was in my mothers house as well they called it a breakfast at that time. We had to walk it home up Warwick St. as someone in my husbands side paid for the taxi and told the driver we wouldn't need it as we only stayed up the road I was mortified when I came out as a lot of my workmates were there. My husband was in the army doing his national service so we never got a honeymoon didn't have the money for one anyway HA!HA! but we had a wee single end up at the top part of Lawmoor St. facing the graveyard
