101 Trolly bus

Post by DannyGill »

Hi Gang,
Does anyone remember the 101 trolly bus, it's terminus at one end of its route was at The Shawfield stadium area. I think that street was Queensferry st [?] then it went all the way along Rutherglen Rd and I think turned right into Crown st [?] but where was it heading for at the other end. Think the Trolly bus's were nicknamed "the silent death" as kids couldn't hear them coming as they were powered from overhead electric cables and I believe there were a few fatalaties.

Is this any help?

"101: Started on 6 November 1949, initially between Shawfield and Cathedral Street (replacing part of tram route 10). The route was eventually extended to run between Rutherglen and Riddrie. Closed on 20 April 1966 and replaced by bus route 27"
