Anecdote Does anyone know of Carol Torbet daughter of Robert Taorbet. Carol was raised by her granny Peggy Torbet and her grand father Jake Torbet. The family all lived together on the same landing as Carol's great aunt Molly Donald and great uncle Davy Donald. The tenament building was demolished sometime in the 1970's and after the 2 great aunts shifted to new houses I lost contact with my second cousin Carol Talbet. She was about 6 years old in 1969. Carol was an only child whose mother died young. I have often wondered about Carol as she did not have any other family members that I know of once her father, grandparents and great aunt and uncle died. Trust someone will remember wee Carol Torbet? Kind regards to all Scotland's people. Marlene.

Anecdote Does anyone know of any of their rellies that went from southampton to new york 1956 on the CUNARD Mauretania 2nd. ship. that lived in glasgow. My relative Last name Rychel and child Maureen Sheldon (10 years old). were on this ship. would be interesting to contact anyone who met them on the ship

Anecdote I am very sorry to disturb you. I founded your e mail on the site http://www.gorbalslive.org.uk I am writing a novel which takes place in Glasgow between 1957 and 1960. My "heroes" are Teddy Boys and girls, who live in districts of Gorbals and Hutchesontown. It is not only stuff about Teds but a "slice" of life between 1958 and 1960 in the Gorbals. Sure it's a fiction story who turns over the Rock and roll and around the working class. I need details about the true life in this time. Could you help me? (Where are you going to listen music, cinema, dancing, what do you have at meat at home, where do you buy records, books) I would be very happy to illustrate my book with pictures from this time. So, I should be happy if you could furnish me some pictures from this time (personals pictures with or without people) and if you authorize their publications ? I am a novice writer, fascinated by the 50s. I thank you. All my Best. ( PS, I am living in France and the book will be write in French)

Anecdote FAO Kate in London. I lived in Inverkip St From around 1960 - 1968 when we moved to Caledonia Road. There was a saw mill beside our close where we used to get saw dust for the cats tray. A whiskey bond across the road that was full of stray cats. We had bay windows that overlooked the Clyde. At Christmas the Carrick boat would be adourned with lights and would sound its horn to see the bells in at new year. Was 8 years old when we left so memories are a bit vague. Inverkip Street was at the back of the Mosque somewhere but don't think it exists anymore. Hope this is of some help
