I watched the Scotland/England game yesterday and while I was hoping that Scotland would win, and was disappointed at the final result, I still enjoyed the game.

I was very excited when Kenny Miller scored for Scotland. Kenny now plays for the Vancouver Whitecaps and as I live in Vancouver and am an avid Whitecaps supporter, my heart was just so full of pride. For a brief moment I thought oor Kenny was going to be the hero of the game, but alas it was not to be.

I have read a lot of negative comments about Kenny both in Scotland and also sometimes here in Vancouver. No matter..... yesterday he did Scotland proud and I for one am delighted at his contribution yesterday.

Vancouver has some very important games coming up and our next game is this Saturday in Colorado, USA, and Kenny is expected to play. Last Saturday he scored for Vancouver, yesterday he scored for Scotland, if he scores in Colorado, he'll have scored in three different countries in eight days. Regardless if he scores or not he will receive a warm welcome back at the next home game in Vancouver.

I for one want to say: Well done Kenny and welcome back to Vancouver. Cheers, Sheila

Like you also watched the Scotland v England match the other night and share most of your comments .It was a typical old fashioned Scotland v England game with no quarter given and in this case 5 goals. As a fan of any good player the first thing you look for is honesty of effort and Kenny is that type of player and that was a fabulous goal that he scored dropping his shoulder with back to goal and gaining that half a yard to hit his shot goal bound. I will be watching with interest to see if he can score that third goal in three countries Canada .UK,and USA.
Perhaps you could confirm if it happens and if it does could it be a candidate for the Guiness Book
of Records.??
Interesting enough the winning goalscorer was packing "Beetroot " a few years ago before Southampton snapped him up <Ricky Lambert>
Finally I have a MILLER side to my Family and for years I suspected that maybe i was a
distant relation ,certainly I share the same passion for the Sport and would have given everything to have given everything to have put on that "Navy Blue " shirt and played for my Country.
The only thing that may prevent "Kenny "from getting the Hat trick is possibly Jet Lag !!

I meant to say in my original post that I thought that most of the Scotland team played really well. I agree it was a great goal from Kenny. And good on Lambert for his rise from beetroot packing a few short years ago to now hero for England.

Am a tad concerned as well about the jet lag factor for Kenny, along with the travelling, the time difference and also the altitude in Colorado, but as of this morning the Manager of the Whitecaps (another fellow Scot, Martin Rennie) has said Kenny will play, so fingers crossed it all works out. Not sure if it would qualify as a Guinness book record or not, but surely some kind of record if he scores on Saturday and makes it one goal in three countries in 8 days.

The game starts at 6:30p.m. our time on Saturday night and I will definitely post the outcome of the game on here. So fingers crossed for a fellow Scot.

Well unfortunately no goals for Kenny in Colorado, as a matter of fact no goals for Vancouver in the game and they were beat 2-0 by Colorado. Kenny had a decent game, he played 61 minutes and was taken off according to the Manager to rest him for the upcoming games. Some of the team played okay but the majority played very poor. Still my hat is off to oor Kenny for having travelled 12,000 kms in 5 days and played in three countries in 8 days. Oh well there's always the next game I suppose. Cheers, Sheila

Hi Gang,
Yes I thought the England v Scotland match was a great game and I think wee Gordon Strachen will be a good manager for Scotland and fair play to the Scottish team for playing a real good game, I think 2-2 would/should have been the final result. Kenny Miller was/is a great player and good luck to him with his team Vancouver Whitecaps.

On September 25th 2015 it will be the Hundred th Anniversary of the death of my Great Uncle
Tommy Miller who was killed in action at the Battle of Loos .He joined the HLI
Highland Infantry a Glasgow formed regiment and he lied about his age to get in saying that he was
17 years old but was only 16, but was 17 when was killed . My Grandaughter Jessica who was 9 year old at the time asked me "Why are going to live in France "? and I whilst I could not give her an immediate answer at the time I realise after visiting the Battlefield Cemetry last year and saw "Tommy's name
inscribed on that wall I knew that "Fate " had made this appointment years ago and that my destiny in
life had chanelled me to look and pay my respects and have some quiet reflection ther.
I had a wee "Hauf" in his memory there and I discovered that he was in good company as the great
poet Rudyard Kipling ,s Son Jack was also killed on the same day and the Queen Mothers Brother
Fergus was also killed on the same day . The Millers were originally from Ratho in Edinburgh but not sure about any further connections ??

I see today that Kenny has retired from International play. Must have been a really tough decision for him, fortunately Vancouver Whitecaps will perhaps benefit from this decision as he's a vital team player and upcoming games are crucial for VW in the next few weeks, to their chances of making it into the play offs.

What an interesting story Reg re your Great Uncle. The Edinburgh connection and Kenny being from there, could well possibly mean you are indeed related. I am sending you a PM with a research suggestion incase you ever want to try to follow up on this.
