Hi Emelia,

You are absolutely right in what you are saying, unfortunately I am one of the culprits as I have been using this site for a few years now and indeed read every topic and post going back to it's inception. I have enjoyed it so much and it provided me with a link to my past and my childhood, which I can say without doubt has made me the man I am today.

I don't quite know why I haven't participated as much as I should have done, surprising for me because I'm usually very chatty and cant resist having an opinion or comment to make on any subject. The memories of the Gorbals are very strong and well defined in me as a person and I look back on them fondly. So, I should take pleasure in commenting and contributing more.

The one thing I will say and comes across very strongly on all the threads are how proud we all are of being Gorbalites, if that is the appropriate term. We could easily have come from one family, maybe that is true to some degree!

Anyway, I look forward to posting and replying more than I have done.

Take care.

Hi Braveheart (John)
Thanks for replying to my post, I just feel the admin are doing a wonderful job for us and if we stop using this post it may stop like the other time when it was away for nearly two years.
When you think of how some people have came into contact with relatives /friends through this site it must have been great for them.
I know we are only reminiscing about the past but that's ok as there are lots of people including myself who like to reminisce.
We have only a few people who keep writing in and it's great to read their tales so if anyone out there is reading this and are a bit shy to participate well don't be as we really have a great wee gang here and it would be good to hear from some of the "oldies from the past" Rita was a great character I went and met her and we had tea together and it was lovely to put a face to a name she was wonderful and very knowledgeable and had great stories to tell so maybe if you read this Rita get cracking and come back on as we miss you.

Hi Braveheart. I was always led to believe we are Gorbalonians ,not Gorbalites, but what does it matter as long as we are all pals. Or should that be chinas. Surreyboy.

Hi Amelia,John +Freddy,
Yes I would like to see more people post their messages on here, it seems as if it's only a dedicated few that post regularly and some times I find it hard [or run out of ideas for a new posting] when more people do not reply or get involved whereas if there were many people posting then we all become more involved. I think one of the things against us is the Face book sites where the format is different and I am on a few of those sites myself =the Dampies and Oatlands Memories , I understand some people don't use Face book so surely these are the people we want here on Gorbals Anecdotes. I don't know how to entice them to start posting because I do not want to see us lose this group, if you look at our membership it's plenty, so lets hope that people reading this can rally to our call and get our "Family" back on here all giving our views and telling our story's.
Regards.
Danny :)

Hi Freddy...Pal/China,

Nice one Freddy, I like that. Reminds me of my Dad and Granda God bless them, they always said China! Just had a debate with my missus on this post, when reading it out to her she said...."China is an east end (London) phrase not a Glasgow one!" Needless to say I defended this vehemently and insisted that this was most definitely a good old Glasgow word. Unfortunately, I made this stance before she was due to make dinner....I could end up starving now....ah well I done that many times when I was a kid, but I survived.

Oh no, she was planning to do a nice Ashet Pie....Why can't I keep my mouth shut, well at least until I have eaten!

Take care,

John

Hi all,

Great post Ameila. I also wish more people would participate on here, I miss a lot of the patter and guid auld stories. One of the reasons I hesitate at times to write in is because I hate the thought of someone reading it and thinking "Aw naw, no her again" I do really enjoy this forum. Someone will say something and boom it just triggers a memory and brings a smile to my face.

To those who do post on here, thanks I love your stories. For those who don't, please do. We're all soosiders and enjoy a wee blether and I'm sure lots of you out there have many memories good or bad we would like to hear.

I'm one of the fortunate ones Amelia talked about who found a long lost friend on here after 40 years, so I'm really appreciative this site is up and running again. So please join in, you just never know who you might discover on here or they may find you. :o Cheers, Sheila
