Wallies

Post by amelia »

Hi Gang
I've been trying to get a new set of "wallies" of the dentist :D the ones I have are chipped at the front well at the back of the front teeth :? and I keep putting my tongue to it but the dentist said there is nothing wrong with them he cannot see it but I told them it's me that have them in my mouth and I can feel it anyway I'll have to go and try a new dentist
I wonder if Florence St clinic still takes to do with teeth
Does anyone remember going there I was always terrified going near there as everyone thought they were butchers :? I think every wane in the Gorbals went there before Taylors started their practise in Crown St. I think he was about the only dentist in the area that I can think of.
Anyway has anyone got a spare set they can give me or maybe I'll try EBay as people seem to buy nearly everything from there

Hi Amelia,
I know what you mean about "Wallies", I had all my top teeth pulled out when I was 15 [only been at work for 3 months] because I had Piareah [spelling] of the gums and my Ma took me to Chisholm st over the toon to the dentists and he gave me that horrible gas mask and told me to start counting back from 10, well I only got to 6 then KO. When I woke up my clothes were covered in blood and could only take soup and bread for the next 2 weeks as my gums were very tender to say the least. All the men at work were calling me Popeye ha ha , I can laugh now but not at the time. Well Amelia I progressed from there as I have bottom dentures too, yes the full Monty and it's terrible sometimes eating something and small particles get behind your palate it's so uncomfortable and you try and get the offending particles out with you tongue and hoping if your in company that other people don't notice what your trying to do :) . Thank God that Dentists have moved on from the ones we used to know in the Oatlands/Gorbals area and it's a pleasure for me going into my local dentist [check-up] here in London. Hope you get your dentures sorted out Amelia, don't know about E-Bay though ha ha.
Regards.
Danny. :)

Hello there Chinas. When I saw the subject "Wallies", Ithought we were talking about posh closes. It turns out to be Amelias teeth. You are right Amelia about Florence st. clinic. The very mention of the name struck terror into the heart of every wean in the gorbals. However, there was a few dentists at Eglinton Toll. Benny Caplan was one, and believe it or not there was one called Gummer. Surreyboy

Hi Surreyboy
Gummer was at Eglington Toll on the Pollokshaws side next to Maxwell Drive funny I never noticed it the last time I was going home must look again to see if the name is still up on the window.

Hi Freddy,
You made me laugh about "wallies" saying you thought it was about Wally closes, werent there some lovely wally closes about. Was there any in the Gorbals area ?, I had a girlfriend called Rena Smith in the late 1960's and she lived with her Ma up in Dennistoun and not only did they have a wally close but an inside toilet, talk aboot being millionaires. ha ha.
Regards.
