garden plots

Post by amelia »

Does anyone remember the plots in the Oatlands, I cannot remember exactly where they where if they were next to the RITZ.
A good few year ago there was an article in the paper that the council wanted the land and the people who looked after and worked in them fought the council and they won their case as it was a lifeline for some of the people. I don't know if they still have them as it was the time when they started building the new houses.

Hi Amelia,+gang
Yes I remember the plots in Oatlands they were in Braehead st on the same side as the Ritz picture house [were they called the Caledonian gardens ??]. I remember that in the summer months they had an open day or a "fair" and I'm sure you could buy home grown rhubarb etc, I laso think on that day you could buy glasses of ginger too. This way back in the early or maybe mid 1950's. Oh how I miss those days living in the soo-side we were so happy, didn't have lot of money and our tenements were not mansions but we had such a great community spirit, playing games, fitba, peever etc.
Regards.
Danny :)
