Money Savings Box

Post by braveheart »

Hi All,

Do you remember the money boxes you used to get when you were young, they looked like a book, made of metal with a coin slot and a hole for taking notes. They even had the Gold leaf colour on the edge of where the pages would be! But it also had a keyhole to get into the box :x :x :x but the keys were kept by the Bank or National Savings Bank I believe, so you had to take the box there to have it emptied and then you had to watch them deposit the money into your savings account

Take care.

Hi John+gang,
Can't say I remember that one john, but I remember a wee piggy bank with a slot on the top and I used to pop in a penny or two and just for devilment if I wanted to know how much I had saved up then I would have to get one of my Ma;s kitchen knives put the blade into the slot , turn the piggy bank upside down and try and get the coins to slide down the blade and out [phew]. As I grew up into a young man and stared working I opened a Post Office savings account which was a lot easier as I would place money over the Post Office counter and it would be added into my book. At that time years ago in the building trade it was all cash and was so easy to spend if you didn't have a savings account, nowadays all my pension is paid directly into my bank account, although I like to keep a few pound in the house [not a lot] for take away delivery drivers.
Regards.
Danny :)
