has anybody noticed

Post by tweedlie5 »

Has anybody noticed that since the site was changed it's been become less used? All the old story tellers have disappeared. It's a shame because I used to love the old site it was more personal and easier to use for people to use

I think that what has happened is that a lot of people are on Facebook that has an Old Gorbals Pictures on it and a lot of people are posting there...I like this better and do not find it hard to negotiate at all...Nicer comments and no one being nasty on here... :!: :!: :!:

Margaret, I agree with you that some people abuse the use of Facebook, also this site is different but it is also very good that someone restored it for the pleasure of others like myself to which I am thankful. Frank in Oz

Hello Tweedlie5, Thanks for your comments. I wish the site were more used. It would be great to have some of the former 'posters' back on board. I guess some people struggle with changes and maybe this is where the issue lies.
I did email all the former storytellers and trying to coax them to register. I reckon many maybe still visit the site as the traffic has increased since the new setup came into being with new people visiting and maybe not registering.

The old site was actually less personal in that every message had to be vetted, copied and pasted and posted by someone in between the person who posted and the forum. Now, posts are added by you, the user directly, and people can respond directly to you.
To an extent the old site was easier to use in that all one had to do was send your message and someone else would do the work for the user. This led to many messages not being posted for a long time and in some cases not at all. At least now all messages get posted.

The facebook page set up regarding the Gorbals is fine if you have a facebook account. However I gather that there have been issues with individuals abusing one another and using copyright material etc without attribution or links.

We shall maintain this site for as long as is possible. It is at the heart of a lot of the efforts we are trying to put together for the overall website which hasn't moved forward as quickly as we would have liked due to other pressures. Still we shall persevere.

Thanks for your message and hope that this won't deter you from contributing any thoughts, memories or whatever.

I like this new set up. Don't find it difficult to navigate.
I think there's several reasons these forums are more quiet these days.
The fact that people now have to register on here before posting, in my opinion has put a stop to or at least lessened the chance of people being abusive in their comments, and let's face it in the old forums there was a few individuals who were downright nasty as well as abusive. I don't miss those posts at all. I do miss the people who were great story tellers and I wish too they would come back and give us some interesting reading. Another reason is probably people are using sites within facebook. Personally I think it's only a matter of time before people will come off these sites, as some do not seem to be moderated and abuse and arguments has occurred on them. Nothing wrong with people having different opinions but when it gets nasty it just gets ugly and sickens people. Also think and I mean no disrespect by this, that some people are getting older or have health problems and that or maybe just life in general is the reason we don't hear from them now.
I for one definitely hope this site continues. I know a few people who sometimes post on here so will contact them and ask them to pop on here to say hello again.
Many thanks to admin for the energy and effort that has gone into this site, I really appreciate it. :D Cheers, Sheila

Hi Gang,
Yes as stated previously we had some great story tellers on the old site [although a tiny minority were annoying]. Do you all remember that when we were weans we would walk everywhere and for miles and miles or even taking a "midge raking hike" up to Govanhill for the "lucky middens" ha ha. When our walks were over for the day we would still be out playing street fitba for the boys or skipping ropes for the Lassies. In fact we used to walk over to the Barras on a Sunday or to Paddy's market at the Saltmarket or walk to Lewis's store in Argyle st [straight up to the toy department ]. In fact the only time I was on the bus or the Tram was with my Ma to go shopping over the Toon and loved sitting on the front seat upstairs "driving the bus" lol. Even to this day I still love to walk here in London but only for a while as my legs/knees get sore [arthritis] and use my freedom pass to get the bus back. Yes those were happy days and as I always say = we had nothing but we had everything. Speak later folks, take care.

Regards.
Danny :)

Hi Folk, been busy and have neglected this web site
Yes FB has taken many web site members away from several boards I am a member of, I am admin on a couple of FB pages and so far they are thriving, old and new members are making up the membership
Do I like FB, NO but I can see why its popular, its easy for some to post items and photos, easy to contact and talk to family and friends.

Yes there have been some nasty posts re photos, nothing new there, most times if asked, permission to use photos will be given

The ones are onhere need to keep pposting on the MB, use it or lose .
Message Boards have more structure and substance, I likeen FB to a long roll of Toilet Paper

Sorry for being posted missing but will pop on as and when I can

Dannygill nice to see back on here

Hi Norrie,
Yes have to agree with a lot you say about Face book Norrie, it's instant contact with people be they friends or not and there can be a lot of back-biting which is a shame, I try and ignore comments that I don't agree with. That's why I like the Gorbals anecdotes it has people who respect other peoples views and as we all get that bit older we learn to respect other peoples opinions [whether we agree or disagree]. I wish that the other people who used to be on GA would come back on the site again even if it's only to leave a short message. Hope all is well with you Norrie+family and thanks to you once again for sending/sharing your photos over the years to people including myself.
Regards.

Hi Dannygill, some sites can leave you feeling abused, I have been abused and have left some sites and I know I am not the only one
Mind you if its a site worth staying on, I ignore the bampots :D

A lot of work has gone into presenting this web site, its a shame so few have been using it
Lets hope it picks up
