Just popping in
Hi gang
Just a wee note to say I haven't deserted this site. Going through a hard time right now due to my husband having had a bad accident. He's had surgery but it will be 5-7 months for recovery. I pop on the internet when I get a moment, but for now those moments are few and far between. I will hopefully get some time to myself in the near future.
In the meantime just wanted to say Hi to all my friends on here and hope all of you are well.
Glad to see you back on here again John, sorry about your computer but at least you weren't in the bad floods as I had feared. Say Hi to Ingrid for me. Amelia I hope you and your husband are keeping well. Also hope you'll all keep posting on here so I can keek in when I get a minute. Take care and all the best to all of you. Cheers, Sheila

Re: Just popping in
Hi Sheila and gang sorry to hear about your hubby and it must worrying time for you. I hope he gets better quickly keep us posted on his progress
Jerry was at the hospital yesterday the doctor seems to think it is the Dapsome pill he s taking for his celiac that is causing the trouble with his eyes so he is going to write to his doctor to see if there is a different pill that he can take.
The weather we have had for the last 4 days has been lovely but we are back to the cold again only in Scotland do you get the 4 seasons in one day
Has anyone ever noticed the amount of magpies we have now I remember when I was young if you only saw one it was classed as bad luck but now there are hundreds of them.
What do you think about the latest thing now, the council has banned people for bringing bread to feed the ducks if caught they will be fined £50 as it is causing rats this is in Queens Park
what next it's like when they stopped the gollywog on Robertsons jam.
My old brain canna handle all these changes
I'm off n there s a programme coming n telly about the care homes for the old people they have filmed some of the workers bashing them about you see we are all living to long they will be bringing out a pill to bump us old yins off
I'll no be taking it as I don't like taking pills
Goodnight Amelia x

Hi Amelia
Things are getting a bit better here. Husband is in physio therapy three times a week now but they just keep reminding us his recovery is a long way off. Have got people in to help me now with cutting the grass and a few other jobs I wasn't able to handle, so this has taken a lot of pressure off me. So both him and I feeling like a lot of stress is off us now. Thanks for your kind words Amelia I appreciate it very much.
I hope the meds are all sorted out for your husband now. Give us one pill to cure us and then we need another to sort out the side effects.
I saw the magpies the last time I was in Glasgow and couldn't get over the size of them, they were huge!
Can't get over the ban on feeding the ducks, what a shame that is.
Burst out laughing at your comment about a pill to bump us off and you're no taking it.
You always make me laugh or bring a smile to my face Amelia.
Have been keeping in touch with my family and friends on Facebook to update them on my husband's progress. It's worked out really well for me as I don't have time to phone them all and regardless of the time difference I can send them a message when I have the time and vice versa. Have been on the Oatlands memories on Facebook but haven't yet been on the Gorbals old pictures one yet, must try to take a look in at that.
Oh and my big news is my daughter had a baby girl a week ago. This is her second daughter and she is just beautiful, so that made us very happy.
Take care of yourself Amelia and Jerry too.
Cheers, Sheila

Hi Shelia+Amelia
Sorry to hear about your husbands accident, it must ave been bad if it's going to take 5-7 months to recover that is a long time Shelia, would like to say well done to your daughter on the birth of her newborn
. Amelia I also hope your husband gets better too, as for being fined £50 for feeding the ducks well that's "Quackers", here in London outside my ground floor living room window we lots of Magpies and what a size they are. there was an old song about the Magpies=One for sorrow ,two for joy , three for a girl and four for a boy etc but in London there's another saying that if you only see one Magpie you have to say morning/afternoon Mr Magpie hope you and Mrs Magpie and all the baby Magpies are all keeping good [you have to say this three times to take away the "bad luck"] and i say it every time ha ha I'm an eejit . Well it's getting nearer the time for the Gorbals reunion do in the Glencairn club on August the 8th, I've already paid for my hotel and yesterday paid for my return Train journey so all I have to get is my spending money and 'am all set. Must say I'm looking forward to it and having a wee walk roon the soo-side again oh and popping into a few of the pubs in the Gorbals [but there's hardly any left]. Well girl's that's me for a wee while now so take care [and Hubby's too] , Speak later your wee pal Danny.
Regards.
Danny.

Hi Sheila/Danny
glad you're getting help Sheila it's terrible at times when you have to rely on other peoples help especially if you've always been able to do all these things yourself.
And Danny I remember that wee saying about being bad luck if you only saw one did you no have to clap your hauns when you saw them
That was a good one about the ducks "Quackers" only someone from the Gorbals would think of that your brain is alright Danny your on the ball
You'll like the Glencairn it's not the old one as a new one had got built sometime ago when they were making road they have a lot of "Doos" in it as I have been to a couple don't know if the drink is cheep/dear find out you can carry a wee hauf bottle in with you in your back pocket
Won £25 on the lottery on Saturday this line has been pretty lucky maybe I'm going to hit the jackpot some day and I'll not forget my friends have made on here
Congratulations on the new baby Sheila has she got a name yet?
I'll close now as I have been making Holy Communion cards to sell bit of a hawker" about me

Re: Just popping in
Hi Gang,
Well this week the weather has been really sunny here in London, I wasn;t out last week at all as my legs n foot were playing up but feel really good now, so will be out and about next week [as long as it dizzny rain ha ha]. Yes Amelia I'm looking forward going to the Glencairn as I've never been there before, I know it's on the road to Rutherglen, I loved going to Rutherglen in my late teen years it was such a nice place with a good few pubs [music] and I think it had a picture house called the Reno [?]. Going to take a good walk through the Gorbals again and on to Oatlands, I still have in my memories eye that the old Tenements are standing and it still comes as a shock when I look and they're gone. Being away from the soo-side for 45 years dizzny help and I suppose people who have lived there all their life wouldn't have noticed the change as much as me coming back after 45 years and still expecting it to be the way it was when I left but time marches on I suppose. I went down to Kent last weekend as my youngest daughter Danielle's birthday was nearing , she's 33 now, oh where have the years gone. We had a great time they live in a place called Rochester and it's kind of olde worlde [part of it] with a street full of shops going back to Charles Dickens time, they have an ancient castle there plus other old buildings and best of all plenty of pubs ha ha.. Well Gang that's me for a while so I will bid you all farewell for now and hope that all our ailments are on the mend. Can't wait to go back up the Soo-Side again. Take care all and God Bless.
Regards.
Danny

Re: Just popping in
Hi Amelia and Danny
Thanks for your kind thoughts. I've learned to do so many things I'm thinking I might apply for an apprenticeship somewhere.
The people I hired have done a great job and have been very reliable so I'm appreciative of that. My husband is trying to stay positive, and it's just going to take time now and lots of healing.
Amelia the baby's name is Rebecca Claire and she is gorgeous.
Another wee win Amelia? I think you're definitely going to hit the jackpot, I hope you do! Good luck with the selling of your Holy Communion cards.
I was in the old Glencairn over 40 years ago, several of my aunts & Uncles used to go there on a regular basis, one of my wee Aunts used to do a turn every week singing in it.
Danny thank you for the congrats regarding the baby. I hope you have a great time at the reunion, I hear it's sold out for the event. That picture house you mentioned in Rutherglen Danny was the Rio, I think it's now a restaurant. Where your daughter lives sounds magical Danny, would love to see that.
Will sign off for now, I hope this finds you both in the very best of health. Cheers, Sheila

Hi all
Wee quick update, things here are getting better, think I can see a light at the end of the tunnel.
Hubby is still in physio therapy three times a week, but he's doing better. Hope all is well with everyone on here and that you are all behaving yourselves.
Cheers Sheila

Hi Shelia,
Just wanted to say that's great news about you husband and may his recovery get speedier, weather here in London the last couple of days has been really warm and Sunny with this Friday [13th] to be the hottest of the week 26 C so maybe an early start to the Summer ?. Was speaking to someone the other day on face-book and she was asking about 10 quid who used to be on the anecdotes a while ago, anyone heard ?. It's sad that we have lost so many of the people who used to post but if they don't want to what can you do ?. Speak later Shelia and good news about your Hubby again.
Regards.
Danny.
