Post by amelia »

Hi Gang
Remember the "jumping fleas" when we were young gosh they sure gave you a bite it left a wee red mark.
You couldn't catch them they were that quick
Glad everyone is coming back on again.

Hi Amelia...Talking about jumping fleas...When we used to go to the matinees at the Paragon my Mammy used to check out under our simmits to make sure there were no fleas on us...Every now and again she got a winner...We used to say "that you went to the Paragon with a coat and came out with a waistcoat." The fleas ate the clothes off of you...
Like you said..."they used to leave wee red bumps on you." Cheeky we buggers...

Don't think I have seen a flea in years...Here they give dogs and cats something they put under their skin to keep them away from the animals...Maybe they are all "deid noo."

Margaret ;) ;)

Hi Amelia and Margaret,
Oh yes the jumpin fleas I remember them well and what a nasty wee bite they would give you, can you remember the DDT spray can that your Ma would spray all around the hoods [was that for fleas ?], remember my Ma would put some Calamine Lotion on the bites or wiz it Iodine ?. It's funny some of the Picture Houses seem to give you the Fleas, the George in Crown st was another that made you "jump" ha ha.
Regards.

Amelia & Gang
This was one of those subjects that no one really wished to be associated with
however the were about and sometimes I recall that in the classroom you knew who had themby virtue of the "Nit lady "
came to the school and certain individuals in the class went for a session with her .!!
My earliest recollection of any form of infestation was when we moved from the Gorbals and my Parents bought a product
"Flit" which with aid of an early form of a spray can< like a cycle pump with a reservoir tank on the end of it and I recall
them spraying both ssides of all our mattresses. It seemed to do the trick . Yes I also recal some Cinemas referred to as
"Flea -Pits" :)
Best regards Reg :)
