Great site.. looking for relatives George O'Neill died 1945 aged 22. He was the son of Mr & Mrs Milligan. I would like to be able to contact cousins when visiting Glasgow in 2004!

I'm looking for John/Jack Short who won some type of Scottish Championship Dancing Award (I'm assuming Ballroom Dancing) between 1925 - 1935. Any information would be appreciated.

I was born in 1957 and brought up in Lawmoor Street with my gran and grandpa Willie and Peggy McCallum, who then moved to Queen Elizabeth square, and I moved with my parents to St Ninians Stirling. I still remember my pal Eddie Bagan who went to St Francis school, I went to Camden St. I also remember when Eddie and I were very young, his dad Franky Bagan and my Grandpa Wullie taking us to a junior cup final at Hampden and Eddie getting lost and the whole of Lawmoor St spending the night looking for him. Eddie's mum was called Gertrude Bagan, he had a sister called Elizabeth I think. I remember Jackie and Katie Purden from Queen Elizabeth square, and there was a crabbit auld bugger called Cutty who used to to be drunk all the time and would chase us into the cemetary. My dad came from Black St in Townhead, his name is Duncan Thomson. My mothers name is Mary Fraser McCallum and they still live in Stirling. My mums sister Isabel married John Stewart and moved to Castlemilk. My uncle John sadly passed away a few years ago. My 3 cousins Margaret, Janet and wee Isobel still live in Castlemilk. If anybody out there remembers any of the people mentioned, please get in touch. P.S. I also remember Dirty Maggies comic/book shop.

I remember wee Murrin's in Sandyfaulds Street, and I also remember Tommy Malarkeys roudn the corner in Mathieson Street. I am not sure if it was his sister who worked with him in Dirty Maggies in Rutherglen Rd. McLintocks Factory Sweetie Shop was where you could buy a penny bag of mis-shapes. A hard bag contained toffees, humbugs, etc and a soft bag had marshmallows, macaroons and fudge. I remember Greasy Peter's, the fish shop and his wife was called Pat. My uncle WULLIE (Birdie) DORAN drove a horse drawn milk float for Hamilton's Dairy across the road. He used to take us for a 'run' in it on a Sunday and we all loved it. McNeil Street was a great street most of the time. If you made too much soup, you used to take if down to somebody who wasn't working and get your pot back the next day. My father BILL McINCH had an allotment out at Braehead St and used to come down the street with armfuls of lettuce, tomatoes, beetroot, sybies and flowers. My sister Betty used to get sent round to all the old women on their own with littles bundles of veg and flowers. As Mary Robinson wroter in her email 15.04.03, her mum used to say "There was more good came out of the Gorbals than there ever was bad". How true! This site has brought back so many memories. I went to school - St Francis and St Bonaventure's with MARY FOSTER and MATILDA (Tilly) MULLEN. Mary married Jack Gordon and moved from Cramond St to East Kilbride. Tilly married Joe Simms and moved from Moffat St to Govanhill. I would love to hear from them.

Hello David Kerr, I too have heard all about Dan Cronin from my father Jimmy Philbin, who managed the Pig and Whistle pub in McNeil St all during the war years. I also went to St Bonaventure's school with Martin Devine and Frank Cousins. Martin had two sisters, Isa and Delia and we all played in Moffat Street with Joe Beetan.

What wa the origin of the "puggy well" (my spelling) situated at the Caledonia Road end of Hospital Street? We used to play around it as children and yet can't figure out why it had such an odd name.
