As a small child during the late 50s and early 60s I remember the great circuses which used to come to town. Billy Smarts, Bertrum Mills and Chipperfields were the ones that stuck in my mind. But which one had the world famous CoCo the clown and the elephant which drove a specially built jeep from the Falmouth Railway Station to the big top sited on the towns rugby ground. And is there a web site I could visit to view these long past happy memories?

Can anyone remember what year it was when there was a tragic accident when 4 children were involved in a collision with a bus, I think 3 of them died and only one survived. I think it was round about Moffat st in the seventies at some time?

I was born in a single end at the corner of lawmoor st. and caledonia road. The memories of living in the gorbals are endless and the gorbals anecdotes sometimes leave me day dreaming about the countless adventures in the first seventeen years of my life. I grew up and was educated in the streets of the gorbals (hutchesontown) and would not trade that for anything. Sometimes I wonder about Neil McFadyen and all the others too numerous to mention.

Hi, my great, great grandparents originated from Gorbals. I sent for their marriage certificate (from Scotland's People) however it was a copy of a parochial register which gave no information other than the fact they married in 1848. As I want to trace my ancestors further back does anyone know how I can achieve this?

I was born in 223 Thistle Street top floor 1947. I left the Gorbals when I was 6 to move to Ibrox. I have few memories but two that stick in my mind are the midden men shewing us up the stairs while they emptied the bins, the rats that came from behind were the size of cats (probably) not I was six. I went once a week to Rosebuds with twins who stayed in the next close and I can still feel the distaste of their older sister who had to walk us there. I wish I could remember names. I had a brother Gordon, my parents were Flora and Matt (Nobby) Clark. I believe my fathers family lived near by but I don't know them. My mothers family Gordon lived in McKinlay Street. There was subsidence in their back courts and access was blocked. I can remember being lifted out of the window with my brother to get my photo taken but could not understand why we could not play there. My jeely pieces in Thistle Street were flung down in brown bags to the back court. I've enjoyed reading all that everybody had to say and I'll be visiting the site regularly.

My name is Jessie Walker, I was born in 5 Thistle Street in 1933 and left to elope in 1952. I went to Buchan Street school and then went onto Adelphi Terrace. My maws name was katie Walker who married in later years to Boaby White. I left school and went to work in Masseys the grocers. People I remember from school is: Mildred Steen, Fae Duffy, Nan Connelly, and Agnes Turnbull. I loved living in the Gorbals it was a great community and everyone looked out for each other. We were very poor but always clean and happy. I remember being sent into the toon for ribs and a ham haugh for sundays dinner and some whelks and mussels. I loved going to Paddys market and prayed every week that I would get a kilt as all my pals had one. I eventually got one years later but they were out of fashion and trousers had been introduced for the wumman. I got a job as a clippy on the buses and this is were I met my late husband Jimmy Cameron. I remember cochranes, Wullie Wilson the butcher in Crown street. My memories of living in the Gorbals are the length of 5 motorways and I'll always be proud to say "I'm a Gorbals lassie".

My name is Jackie McDonough, I was born in Orchard St (Oatlands) my mother was called Margaret Burns, died when she was 29. My father moved to 3 Ballater St, it was next to McKellars pub at the Gorbals Cross. I lived there, from age 5 til 15. I went to St Johns then Holyrood. Up my close were Mchughes (Pat) was a friend, the Birrels, Wrays and Carrols above. Another friend was Davie McConnell, next close. I used to go to Hell's Kitchen cafe in Eglinton St. Yes some great memories from the old Gorbals, I have lived in England for the past 40 years but still miss the glesga patter. Hope some of my old friends read this.

With all the talk about Vioxx does anyone remember Dr. Emma Gibb? She had her surgery at the corner of Sandyfaulds Street and Cumberland Street. No appointments necessary. Just go to the office and take a seat. If you needed a housecall, you delivered a note to Birrell's the Chemist and it was passed on to her and she came to the house. Anyway, she used to give out these tablets (pills) called "M and B's". They were used for everything - from a headache to virtually anything you complained about. I wonder what the initials "M and B" stood for. Anyone out there have any thoughts on this?

Hi JIVER, Your wife is half right, lady"s night was Tuesday and Thursday, remember the burds got a book of ten tickets, and they could nod their heeds after 9pm. Also from the 5th dance, there were prizes if you had the correct ticket number - chocolates fur the burds and fags fur the guys. I was actualy lucky once and won 40 capstan, worth a fortune, fags were dear for us teenagers then. I rember wilsons too, but I went to dalgleashes somewhere up the town. Remember it was 1/6p for barraland, I vageualy think it was 6p for the jivin and a shilling on a Saturday night. Aw ra best JIVER.

Sheer magic wee wullie malley dance all night sabu 6,6 or near enough throw the lassies over his shoulder and between his lanky legs mid 50s 2bob membership 2bob to get in and never any trouble, 5 minute walk from the soo side twenty minute walk from Castlemilk. Ask the teens to walk that far today I'm sure they'd faint. Memories are always great, sadly we will never see those days again but lets hope for the young ones sake it all comes back - old jiver.

CUMBIE - from mid 50's, all in their late 60's - 70's where are they all now; cochie, chic mcqueen, boyle, sabu, pimpy, terry, kerr, murphy, dagger, achy. Age catches up with us all the grey matter gets less or is it all the belts about the head makes us forget the good old days in the Gorbals. Do u remember the jivein clyde valley stompers, Barraland with the usual barney after with the toy chick our favourite barney. Ah daft wee boys but great fun hope u are all still kicking, who had the best made to measure suit tweedie with the yellow velvet collar were have we all gone?
