Hi Amelia
There were few sweeties I didn't like when living in Glasgow, but oddly enough walnut whips were one of them I didn't like. Also Milky ways and fry's cream. (think I only disliked that because of the dark chocolate). One of my favourites was the Cadbury cream eggs and I used to love ones called "treats". When I was over there last year I hunted for sweeties called rosebuds. Went to Glickman's and from one end of Glasgow to the other with no luck. Finally got some in Largs, while they weren't exactly as I remembered them, they were still really good. I then went into a place in East Kilbride and the woman said she had them. They were red and yellow (as opposed to the pink ones I had got in Largs) anyway bought them and they were rubbish. So after that, I kept asking everyone did they want a real rosebud or a kid on rosebud? Greedy beggars all kept wanting the "real" ones. So next year I'm going to Largs to stock up on some real rosebuds again. Bounty's and Cadbury's fudge were also favourites of mine. Cost me extra weight baggage charges last year, because of the amount of biscuits and sweeties I brought back. Thought I had brought my own personal stash of orange flavoured club biscuits and I would share all the others with my kids, but Naw........ they loved the orange club. Cannae win for losing neither I can! lol Sorry Rosemary didn't mean to hijack your post here. :D cheers Sheila
P.S. Amelia, I know the post charges over there are a fortune, but it was very nice of you anyway to think of us poor ex pats. Thanks anyway! :D

Hi Amelia...Thanks for thinking about me while you were "sooking" your Walnut Whips...Actually, there are a couple of shops around here where you can buy a lot of sweeties from home...Also, Irish bacon and sausages, black pudding and a couple of other things...I can buy Cadbury Eggs, Terry's Orange slices, Cadbury's chocolate and my favourite of all...Chrunchie bars...My granddaughter, Sadie, loves them, too, so I buy a half dozen and mail them to her...then I buy a couple for myself as well...I try not to eat too much chocolate as I am addicted to it...I can go for so long without eating it and then when I do, I can't get enough of it...Sometimes where are none in the house I have seen myself breaking open a bad of chocolate chips I use for making cookies and eating a handful of them...bad, bad, bad...But at my age now...I think to myself "your a long time dead" go ahead and enjoy a sinful moment...ha. ha.

Getting very, very cold here tonight in New Jersey...Down to 20 F...Big coat for tomorrow...brrrrrrr...

Hi Margaret,
Yes I know what you mean about not touching chocolate for a while then going "mad" , I must say my downfall is Jaffa orange cakes. When I visit my daughters I always take a couple of packets with me so when we sit down for a cup of tea they're opened up and once I start there's no stopping till all the packets are empty. I too remember the walnut whips of long ago in the soo-side and all the other choc favourite's , my own special "treat" was when my Ma would butter a roll and get a bar of Frys cream chocolate and break it into wee bits and put it on the roll, yes a "roll on chocolate" was my favourite of all.
I know what you mean about getting cold in New Jersey, I was visiting friends in Pennsylvania 2 years ago and it was bitter cold with snow blizzards and that was in March brrrrrr.
Regards.
Danny :)
