Scottish Greyhound Derby
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Scottish Greyhound Derby is an original classic greyhound competition held at Shawfield Stadium.[1]
Held at Carntyne Stadium from 1928 to 1968, after the closure of Carntyne the race appeared at Shawfield from 1970 until 1985.
In 1988 the Greyhound Racing Association (GRA), moved the race to Powderhall Stadium in Edinburgh because they had the rights to the event and wanted it to take place at one of their tracks. After just two years it returned to Glasgow and Shawfield following the sale of Powderhall by the GRA.[2]

Hi Reg
Remember my Dad telling us that the term they used when up to their hanky panky was "sending them on". It's sickening to me that people played their money and this nonsense was going on. My Dad used to work at Carntyne as well. One thing about my wee Dad was, he had no problem taking a stand when he saw something as being wrong or unfair. I agree with you it's awful how some people treat animals. We just had a court case here yesterday where a guy bludgeoned and beat his Alsatian then threw it in a dumpster bin. The dog was found but didn't survive. The judge sentenced him to 60 days, but with credit for time served he only has 7 more days to serve. He also got 3 years probation and a lifetime ban on owning any animals. Obviously this guy has mental health issues but not sure how he'll get better if he's not treated when he leaves jail. So sad. Lots of abandoning goes on here too, very sad and depressing how folks can be so callous! Lots of kittens and puppies abandoned here shortly after Christmas. People giving or getting pets for gifts then decide they don't want them!
All the best Reg, Sheila
